Tips And Tricks For A Great Organic Garden
You have probably heard about organic food and perhaps purchased some. It is easy to spot organic
products. These have different packages and cost a bit more. Review the ideas in this piece and see
how you can have an organic garden in your own backyard.
Add aspirin to your plants to help them fight sickness. Try dissolving around one and one half
aspirins into around 2 gallons of water for your plants. You can easily spray the plans with this
concoction to help them fight of disease. Use this method every three weeks.
For in-home organic gardeners, you are looking for an ideal temperature of around 60-75 degrees
for your plants. The plants need this temperature in order to effectively grow. If your thermostat is
normally kept lower in winter, you can use a heat lamp to keep your plants warm enough.
Have all of your tools available to you as you garden to increase efficiency. Carry a large bucket with
you or wear pants with a lot of pockets. Keep gloves, small pruning shears, a trowel and any other
tools handy in order to increase the quickness of the work that goes into your garden.
Use approximately two or three inches of natural, organic material as some mulch in every single
flower bed. This will discourage weeds from growing, add nutrients, and retain the moisture in your
garden. What's more, your garden will look professional all year.
When you are doing work in your garden, be efficient. Keep all of your tools together; do not waste
time looking for them! By keeping your tools in a certain area, they will always be ready whenever
you are. One way to keep your tools handy is to use a belt especially designed to hold them. An
alternative is to wear a garment with multiple pockets that are big enough to hold your more
commonly used tools.
Use an old laundry basket to bring your fresh produce in from the garden. It makes a great strainer
for your vegetables. While your freshly harvested fruits and vegetables are still in the basket, rinse
them off and any excess water will run off through the laundry basket holes.
If you are starting your seedlings out in small containers, you should use a layer of potting soil that
is three times as deep as the size of a single seed. However, some seeds do not need to be covered,
they need the sunlight. Petunia and ageratum seeds need direct sunlight, for example. When in
doubt about whether a seed requires direct sun exposure, you can find lots of information online or
on the seed packaging itself.
Your authenticity as an organic grower is solidified when you obtain the organic gardening
certification. With this, you and your crops are credible and 100% legitimately organic. This is
important for your business and to your customers. That way, you will realize greater sales volume
and demonstrate the value of your produce to potential and returning customers.
Drowning your plants with water can kill them! It will stop your plant's roots from being able to
obtain any nutritional goodness out of its surrounding soil Before watering your organic garden,
check weather forecasts to determine if it is likely to rain later that day. If the weather forecast calls
for rain, it's probably wise to not water your plants that day.
If you want your starts to thrive, take the time to look underneath the ground. For instance, if you
buy tomato seedlings for an organic plot, be cautious if you find green, lush-looking starts that have
underdeveloped root systems. Starts like these can remain on the seedlings. This will inhibit their
growth because they will not be able to grow until they are gone.
Think about using all-natural botanical insecticides in your organic garden; they are very handy
when it comes to getting rid of harmful pests. In some cases natural insecticides are actually more
effective than the synthetic pesticides that are engineered in a lab. However, because botanical
insecticides are biological, they often decay and disappear quickly.
You can simply make a newer garden for perennials with a few steps. Cut under the dirt with a
spade and turn it over. Next, cover the area with three to four inches of organic wood chips. Wait a
couple of weeks, then you can easily dig into it with a trowel and then plant your favorite perennials.
The mulch in your organic flowerbeds should be made of organic material and be no shallower than
three inches. Mulch adds nutrients to your soil, prohibits water evaporation, inhibits weeds and
creates a finished look to your flower or gardening beds.
You will need to know the correct way to create planting beds if you want to make an organic
garden. To start this, slice underneath your turf with a spade. The slice should be flipped over on to
the hole and covered with wood chips. Give it a few weeks and you can start to plant your plants.
Build a garden full of diversity. Variety in your garden has more potential to attract wildlife. If you
are interested in creating an untamed, natural look for your garden, you should include many
varieties of plants. Your garden will become a haven for you to enjoy, as well as a help to the
environment.
Growing your garden at home might not be the most convenient thing for you, but you will save a lot
of money and always have the confidence that what you're eating and feeding your family is as fresh
and as healthy as possible. Use the tips you've learned here and get started on your garden today.
