  • 2. 1 st Inning : Always be Prepared for Job Interviews
    • Before going into a job interview, research the company, dress professional, and be confident in yourself.
    Remember to take your hat off and use a firm handshake!
  • 3. 2 nd Inning : Social Networking is key!
    • Whether it be Twitter, PROpenMic, Wordpress blogs, or Facebook, I have learned that they are all important in keeping up with what’s going on in the PR world and connecting with PR professionals.
  • 4. 3 rd Inning : Press Releases are Crucial
    • As a PR professional, I will have to learn how to write a great press release.
    • It must be ready to be published as written (and I usually won’t get credit for it!)
  • 5. 4 th Inning : The Process of PR is a RACE
    • Research : When you define the problem
    • Action: What you do about the problem
    • Communication: How do you tell the public about it?
    • Evaluation: Did you reach your audience and was it effective?
  • 6. 5 th Inning: PR is Different from Marketing
    • PR is more about dealing with the press and communication, whereas marketing is more behind the scenes and advertising.

  • 7. 6 th Inning : Make a Portfolio
    • Make a Portfolio to present to possible employers that includes:
      • Research papers
      • Clippings from newspapers
      • Writing samples
      • Press Releases
      • This should be a good example of your achievements.
  • 8. 7 th Inning (stretch): Make Connections
    • Go to career fairs and meet with PR pros.
    • Make sure to collect business cards and make a good impression.
    • Try to get your resume reviewed, or possibly even give the PR pro a copy.
  • 9. 8 th Inning: Remember Etiquette
    • As PR professionals we are expected to do, say, and write all the right things.
    • Always write thank-you letters, they will show your professionalism.
  • 10. 9 th Inning: Become a Member of Groups
    • Become a member of:
      • PRSSA (Public Relations Students Society of America)
      • PRSA (Public Relations Society of America)
      • PBEO (Professional Baseball Employment Opportunities)
      • COSIDA( College Sports Information Directors Association)
  • 11. Homerun! Experience is Key!
    • Make sure you take as many internships or jobs that are relevant to the field of Public Relations.
    • Drive and experience are the best way to stand out to a future employer!
