    • The Staff of Wells School, parents and community members will endeavor to provide a positive learning environment based on sound educational practices designed to meet the individual needs of each student. By meeting the changing needs of students in a changing world the school will promote self-esteem, appropriate behaviors, and academic growth.

    • "Our mission in kindergarten is to listen and follow the rules so everyone can learn."
  • 4. Goals for Kindergarten
    • There are so many exciting things that your kindergartener will learn this year.
    • One the next several slides I will show you what they will learn in each subject area.
  • 5. Goals for Language Arts
    • Read with understanding and fluency.
    • Read and understand literature representative for various societies, eras, and ideas.
    • Write to communicate for a variety of purposes.
    • Listen and speak effectively in a variety of situations.
    • Use the language arts to acquire, assess, and communicate information.
  • 6. Goals for Mathematics
    • Demonstrate and apply a knowledge and sense of numbers including numeration and operations, patterns, ratios, and proportion.
    • Estimate, make and use measurements of objects, quantities and relationships, and determine acceptable levels of accuracy.
    • Use algebraic and analytical methods to identify and describe patterns and relationships in data, solve problems, and predict results.
  • 7. Mathematics (continued)
    • Use geometric methods to analyze, categorize and draw conclusions about points, lines, planes, and space.
    • Collect, organize and analyze data using statistical methods; predict results; and interpret uncertainty using concepts of probability.

    • Understand the processes of scientific inquiry and technological design to investigate questions, conduct experiments and solve problems.

    • Acquire movement skills and understand concepts needed to engage in health-enhancing physical activity.
    • Achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness based up on continual self-assessment.
    • Develop team-building skills by working with others through treatment of illness and injury.
    • Understand human body systems and factors that influence growth and development.
    • Promote and enhance health and well being through the use of effective communication and decision-making skills.

    • Through creating and performing, understand how works of art are produced.
    • Understand the role of the arts in civilizations, past and present.
  • 12. Goals for Social/Emotional Development
    • Develop self-awareness and self-managements skills to achieve school and life success.
    • Use social-awareness and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive relationships.
    • Demonstrate decision-making skills and responsible behaviors in personal, school, and community contexts.

    • I will be giving all of you the student handbook, schedules, and a yearly calendar before you leave so that you will be well informed about the school and things that we will be doing this year. Please make sure that you get this information before you leave.
