One Point of Integration Several advantages arise from having a single point of integration, your MDM platform, from day one. Automation and Tracking Once eMeter EnergyIP is integrated into utility operational systems, deployment processes can be automated and tracked as other AMI components, such as smart meters and networks are added. This is not a trivial task since even small trial implementations can require a thousand meters or more. Large scale deployments can entail hundreds of thousands or millions of smart meters and communications modules. The entire implementation process including hardware installation, configuration, and provisioning can be automated and precisely tracked with EnergyIP. Without eMeter EnergyIP, this process would be done manually. With no systematic tracking process smart meters could be “lost” and hardware status might be in question. Manually conducting installation, configuration, and provisioning introduces a level of operational risk and cost that can greatly exceed the cost of a MDM system, especially in full-scale deployments. 3. If the data is suspect, built-in automated procedures can issue work orders to have utility personnel in the area investigate the meter sending suspect data. Once the data is deemed good to use, EnergyIP and the eMeter Billing application can frame metering data, immediately providing determinants to the billing system. Delivery of proper determinants to the billing system completes the process and verifies that the entire AMI is functional, from meter to bill, for a particular household. Without the MDM installed first, validation, steps could not complete while work crews are still near the AMI hardware, and any problems would require dispatching a second work crew. 4. No Manual Reading When the entire AMI meter-to-bill process is working, manual reading is no longer required. If the MDM were not in place, despite the smart meter and AMI communications network being installed, manual meter reading, validation or framing would still need to take place. Without the MDM, the installation of the smart meter and communications network remains a cost without the benefit of automating the meter-to-bill process.
