  2. 2. Introduction • R/3 is designed as a OLTP (Online transaction processing) system and not an analytical and reporting system. • BW provides much better performance and stronger data analysis and reporting capabilities than R/3. • Costume made or third party reporting and analysis applications is another interesting option for their user-friendliness, flexibility, and efficiency, as can be seen in the following examples:
  3. 3. General Design WEB Navigator SAP R/3 SSL Certification Server TCP/IP Interface Server SSL WEB Server SCRIPT RFC y BAPI
  4. 4. Examples • Margin Analysis: Reads sales data from SD module, cost of goods sold from CO Module, saves data in a SQL flat table and produces margin analysis in different dimensions and units. • Executive Presentations: Reads SAP (FI,CO,MM,SD, etc…) ,stores data in a local flat SQL tables, and presents it based on user defined Menus,Indicators, and graphics. • Payment Tracking: Given PO or Invoice number a supplier can track the status of his payment online.

  8. 8. Conclusion • “The winner in this new global e-economy will be those companies that successfully access, maintain, analyze and share business critical information be it about financial performance, customers, suppliers, or employees.” Mike Schroeck PWC Data Wareousing. • SAP offers BW as a its DW solution, however developing costume solution or using third party products is an option that is worth considering given the requirements of the client and the solution conceived by the the consultant.
