    • HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM
    • John 14:16 (CEV) 16 Then I will ask the Father to send you the Holy Spirit who will help you and always be with you.
    • God pours no power into a man’s heart till man’s power is all poured out (Spurgeon)
    • Acts 19:2-5 (CEV) 2 He asked them, "When you put your faith in Jesus, were you given the Holy Spirit?" "No!" they answered. "We have never even heard of the Holy Spirit."
    • John 16:13-14 (NIV) 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.
    • The Holy Spirit has: • a will (1 Cor 2:9-11), • emotions (an ability to love) (Rom 15:30), • an intellect (knowledge) (1 Cor 2:9-11)
    • • Jesus was born of the Spirit (Lk 1:35) • Jesus was filled by the Spirit (Lk 4:1) • Jesus was anointed by the Spirit (Luke 4:18) • Jesus cast out demons by the Spirit (Matt 12:28) • Jesus faced crucifixion in the power of the Spirit (Heb 9:14) • Jesus was raised from the dead by the Spirit (Rom 8:11) • Jesus gave commandments by the Spirit (Acts 1:2) • The same is true of early Christians - Jn 3:1-5, Acts 1:8; Rom 8:14; 1 Jn 2:20; Gal 5:16.
    • Why is it essential for you have the Holy Spirit working in you? He will make Jesus real to us - John 14:21,23 He will make us Christlike - 2 Cor 3:17-18 He will give us power to be a witness - Acts 1:8 He will shed abroad God's love in us - Rom 5:8 He will produce the fruit of the Spirit in us - Gal 5:22-23 He will give the gifts of the Spirit to us - 1 Cor 12:8-10
    • How can you receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit? John 7:37-38 "On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him."

    • Acts 2:4 (NIV) 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
    • 1 Corinthians 14:1-4 (CEV) 1 Love should be your guide. Be eager to have the gifts that come from the Holy Spirit, especially the gift of prophecy. 2 If you speak languages that others don't know, God will understand what you are saying, though no one else will know what you mean. You will be talking about mysteries that only the Spirit understands. 3 But when you prophesy, you will be understood, and others will be helped. They will be encouraged and made to feel better. 4 By speaking languages that others don't know, you help only yourself. But by prophesying you help everyone in the church. 1 Corinthians 14:14 (CEV) 14 For example, if I use an unknown language in my prayers, my spirit prays but my mind is useless.
