  4. 4. Band Facts <ul><li>Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are an American rock n' roll band formed in 1976.
  5. 5. They have recorded twelve studio albums, two live albums, a movie soundtrack and two greatest hits collections.
  6. 6. In addition, most of The Heartbreakers have been musicians on three Tom Petty solo albums.
  7. 7. Today the band is based in Los Angeles, California. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Tom Petty <ul><li>Thomas Earl “Tom” Petty was born October 20, 1950.
  9. 9. He is the singer (frontman) of the band and plays guitar and harmonica.
  10. 10. Tom writes all of the bands songs.
  11. 11. Famous for various other musical projects. </li></ul>
  12. 12. The Heartbreakers <ul><li>Mike Campbell – plays lead guitar and mandolin. He is a very good guitar player.
  13. 13. Benmont Tench – plays piano and keyboards and sings backup vocals.
  14. 14. Steve Ferrone – plays drums and percussion. </li></ul><ul><li>Ron Blair – plays bass and sings backup vocals.
  15. 15. Scott Thurston - plays rhythm guitar, harmonica, lap steel guitar, ukulele and sings backing vocals.
  16. 16. Former band members: Howie Epstein played bass 1982-2002 (died in 2003 due to drug use), Stan Lynch played drums 1976-1994. </li></ul>

  21. 21. Tom Petty has won 3 Grammy awards including the 2002 Grammy for “Best Rock Vocal Performance – Male” for his song, You Don't Know How It Feels . Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers were nominated for 16 Grammy awards. </li></ul>

  32. 32. The song's about a young man named Eddie, or Ed, who moves to Hollywood and meets a girl. He tries to become a famous rock star, but the music industry is against him. </li></ul>
