2. Background
• Lebanon signed the United Nations
Convention to Combat Desertification and
Drought (UNCCD) in September 1995,
• Ratified it in December 1995 and the
Convention entered into force on December
26,1996.
• The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) was
designated the Focal Point institution for the
UNCCD.
3. • Lebanon developed its National Action
Programme (NAP) for the UNCCD in a
participatory process including all relevant and
active stakeholders representing all sectors,
public, private, civil society and academia.
• This process was supported by the German
Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and the Drylands
Development Centre of the United Nations
Development Programme (DDC- UNDP), and it
was endorsed by the Minister of Agriculture in
June 2003.

13. Integrated Financing Strategy
• Lebanon has developed the Integrated
Financing Strategy with a financial support
from GM in the year 2005.
• The resource mobilization strategy aims at
supporting the mobilization of resources for
sustainable land management (SLM), which
includes combating desertification.
14. Reporting
• Lebanon submitted all National reports on
time.
• The final report almost finished and will be
submitted before the deadline.
15. NAP Alignment
• Lebanon has not started the NAP alignment
process since the financial resources was not
available yet, whereas a project proposal has
been prepared, signed and sent to GEF for
financing the process.
• The fund was approved 2 days ago and the
NAP alignment will start very soon and to be
finished by the year 2015.
