Matter and materials

  1. 1. MATTER AND MATERIALS • Matter is everything around us: all living and non-living things are made of matter. • Matter can be in three states: SOLIDS: LIQUIDS: GASES: they have their own shape. they take the shape of the container they also take the shape of the container
  2. 2. PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL CHANGES The objects changes but the matter is the same The object changes and a different matter is formed When the object changes: When the object: -Place -Shape -State -Temperature -Rots -Rusts -Ferments -Burns
  3. 3. HOMOGENEOUS MIXTURE: HETEROGENEOUS MIXTURE: You can see only one component You can see the different components Other examples: milk and Cola-Cao; carrot puree. Other examples: sand and water; muesli.
  4. 4. MATERIALS NATURAL Are found in nature Vegetable origin: come from plants Animal origin: come from animals EXAMPLE: EXAMPLE: -Wood -Leather -Cotton -Wool ARTIFICIAL Are made by man with natural materials Mineral origin: come from rocks and minerals EXAMPLE: -Graphite -Granite Example: glass, paper, plastic
