    9. 9. What are QR Codes • Definition: A QR code (abbreviated from Quick Response code) is a type of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code) first designed for the automotive industry. More recently, the system has become popular outside of the industry due to its fast readability and comparatively large storage capacity. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded can be made up of any kind of data (e.g., binary, alphanumeric, or Kanji symbols).
    10. 10. What are QR Codes continued • Created by Toyota subsidiary Denso Wave in 1994 to track vehicles during the manufacturing process,[the QR code is one of the most popular types of two-dimensional barcodes. It was designed to allow its contents to be decoded at high speed. • The technology has seen frequent use in Japan; the United Kingdom is the seventh- largest national consumer of QR codes. • Taken from Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QR_code
    11. 11. Information that can be stored on QRcodes • A website URL • Contact Information • A phone number • A geographic location • A text message to be sent to a phone # • A plain text message • A calendar event -info from article in NJEA Review by Patricia Bruder

    18. 18. Uses in the Classroom • Scavenger Hunts • On a field trip to a museum supplement info by providing a worksheet with QR codes • QR code takes students to quiz @ end of trip • Provide parents with codes that they can scan to get homework/assignment info • Digital portfolios for students – adding copies of papers, projects, tests and quizzes to the QR code on a student’s report card gives parents a broader picture of their child’s grade.
    19. 19. Classroom Uses Continued • Connecting with parents--on back-to-school night or post QR codes in classroom linked to information about the classroom curriculum or student displays. • Engaging students – with textbooks or study guides. • Easing the transition to college – virtual college tours. • Periodic Table of Elements – Code links to videos of each element
