Police Officer Testing
I wanted to talk to you about police officer testing and what you’ll have to go through if you want to get a
job in the police force. A lot of people have an over simplified view of the hiring process by a police
department. It’s hard to tell if a person is competent enough to be an officer by simply looking at an
application. It would require a very rigorous interview for the hundreds of applicants, but that takes too
much work too. What they do is give a very hard test out to applicants and have them do the work. Those
that pass it with a good mark will move on to the interviewing process. I wanted to talk to you about the
police officer testing because it is the most important part.
I think the biggest thing you need to know about this test is that they’re not concerned with facts. Facts
are just objective pieces of information. They’ll never ask you to list the rules and regulations that govern
your behavior because that would only require you to memorize a bunch of information. They want to
know that you can apply the rules and be a good officer. That makes all the questions oriented toward the
application side of things. They basically want to know what you’d do in specific situations.
Police officer testing also contains a few questions that usually catch people off guard. For example,
you’re going to get a question on mug shots. What they’ll do is give you a mug shot of a person and you
have to identify this person from pictures of people that look almost identical. It’s a lot harder than you’d
think.
