Context: Kenya – South Nyanza
In collaboration with the Scout of Kenya and with the support the World Scout Bureau Africa Regional Office, since 1983 the Brownsea Foundation has carried out a cooperation program for self-development, called Italian Kenyan Scout Development Project ( IKSDP ).
Since march 07 two “masts” (antennas) changed Nyandiwa’s landscape.
One “mast” is in the IKSDP center and the other in the secondary school of Nyandiwa.
The masts serve the purpose of connetting to Internet, through wireless tecnology.

FIRST STEP technological infrastructure The two masts and the IKSDP Cumputer Service are the first step for build up a largest network (LAN) among the 12/13 Gwassi’s schools that are involved in the Educational Exchange Programme.

The Educational Exchange Programme is a twinning of italian and kenian schools. At the moment there are 12/13 Gwassi’s schools involved in the progamme: 11 primary schools and the secondary schools of God Bura .

SECOND STEP computer literacy
1-2 teachers of each schools have attended the computer course in the IKSDP center. In two years, 20 teachers attended the course.
The aim of the course is bring the teachers to a skill basic level on the use of the computer.
THIRD STEP the e-Learning Activities
Since now the messages and works of the italian and kenian schools were exchanged through the volunteers.
Now the kenian teachers can use the computer and the internet to communicate and work togheter almost in real time, with the italian people involved in the project.
The missions of the project are: 1) to establish an active local network of teachers from different schools,
2) to reinforce the educational skills and capacities of Gwassi’s teachers through collaborative projects and, starting from now, also through the use of the new technologies;
3) to promote participation in global network (italy and kenya) and enrich the teaching practice with international exchange.

In the future
The main purpose of the project is to expand the range of training activities available to the teachers.
The final objective is to provide a largest educational offert (on-line courses, activities, meetings ..) for teachers and also for the schools .
Mr. Nashon Ojala , the kenian coordinator of the Educational Exchange Programme said:
“ We are very happy of this chance in Nyandiwa. … Here computer is very useful, rather necessary!”.
