    • This curriculum has several Lessons:
      • Hardware
      • How to work with windows (not Microsoft Windows, but the screens that appear on your monitor)
      • Basic Software
      • Troubleshooting
      • Accessing and navigating the internet
        • Search engines
        • E-mail
  • Performance-based Objective One
    • Be able to point out and explain the functions of all hardware parts of a computer.
    • Be sure to read and understand this objective-you will be assessed on it later-
  • Performance Based Objective Two
    • Perform a shutdown/restart sequence with 100% accuracy.
    • Remember-you will be assessed on this later-
  • Lesson One-Hardware
    • Computers are made of 4 basic parts
    Monitor or screen Keyboard Mouse Drive Tower and CPU (central processing unit) Laptops or Notebooks have all these combined into 1 unit.
  • Using a mouse Left mouse Wheel for scrolling Right mouse Left mouse click- moves cursor to that location Left mouse click and drag- selects multiple objects Left mouse double click- quick double click ‘opens’ a file or software application Wheel scrolls up or down through a page or website Right click-opens a menu with options for formatting
  • The Keyboard Esc F1 PrtSc Pause Break Enter Shift Ctrl Alt Del Ins
  • The monitor This is a Flat screen LCD monitor This is a CRT Monitor

    • The tower components
      • On/off switch

    • Two kinds of storage in a computer are:
    • RAM and ROM
    • Storage is expressed in terms of:
    • Bits, byts, megabytes, kilbytes, and gigabytes

    • CPU, expansion slots, USB ports, Serial ports
    • Peripheral devices are used to:
    • Enhance the experience of the computer user!
