  • ICT @ SCHOOL SCHEME Presented by Shri Nirmal Chandra Mishra State Project Director Odisha Madhyamik Shiksha Mission(OMSM) School & Mass Education Department Govt. of Odisha.
  • BACKGROUND     The rational policy on Education - 1986 as modified in 1992 – stressed the need to employ educational technology to improve the quality of education. The policy statement led to two major centrally sponsored schemes namely (1) Educational Technology(ET) and Computer Literacy And Study in Schools(CLASS) which paved the way for a more comprehensive centrally sponsored scheme i.e. ICT@Schools in 2004 The significant role ICT can play in school education has also been highlighted in NCF-2005 The literature of ICT policy in School education is inspired by the tremendous potential of ICT for enhancing outreach and improving quality of education
  • WHAT IS ICT ICT stands for 'Information and Communication Technology'. This is the term used for the processing, transmission and storage of information and data using modern day technology. ICT@Schools: Begun in India in 2004, the ICT@Schools scheme primarily aims at catalysing the process of infusion of Information and Communication Technologies supported practices, which in turn will enhance productivity , efficiencies and an equitable access to education to all and beyond the Computer Education Programme.
  • VISION The ICT policy in school education giving at preparing youth to participate creatively in the establishment, sustenance and growth of a Knowledge Society leading to allround socio-economic development of the nation and global competitiveness. Policy goals: ICT policy in school education will endeavour to create An environment to develop a community knowledgeable about ICT An ICT literate community which can deploy, utilize and benefit from ICT and contribute to nation building An environment of collaboration, cooperation and sharing conducive to the creation of a demand for optimal utilization of and optimum returns on the potentials of ICT in education
  • AIMS OF ICT IN EDUCATION Can be classified under four headings: utilitarian aims: It helps the learners become competent and confident users of ICT who have the necessary openness and flexibility of mind, which able to adjust to future changes in the technology. social aims: It encourage the learners to develop the appropriate social skills that are essential for co-operative and collaborative learning based around ICT and to ensure equity between all learners by providing appropriate qualitative and quantitative opportunities to overcome social and learning disadvantages. cultural aims: It help the learners appreciate the richness of our cultural heritage by facilitating access to all aspects of our unique culture and help to become cultured citizens of the modern world by facilitating the discovery and appreciation of the cultural heritage of various countries around the world. personal aims. It encourage the learners to develop the appropriate personal skills that are essential for independent learning based around ICT and integrate themselves within school and society helps to develop their abilities and interests.
  • OBJECTIVES OF ICT@SCHOOLS To establish an teaching and learning ICT environment. Empower Students with 21st Century Skills To empower teachers to use technology for effective and interactive teaching methodology. Enabling environment include widespread availability of access devices, internet connectivity and promotion of ICT literacy. To enable students to acquire skills needed for the digital world for higher studies and gainful employment. To provide an effective learning environment for children with special needs through ICT tools. Promote critical thinking and analytical skills by developing selflearning skills of the learner leading to student-centric learning. To promote the use of ICT tools in distance education, including the employment of audiovisual medium etc.
  • FEATURES OF ICT IN SCHOOL Academic Records for the years of the Students. Examination Result of the Individuals. Online Student Guide to help him/her the subject difficulties. Online Library (E-Library) for reference.  On Line MIS of the School by Integrating. Students Data Base Teachers Data Base Infrastructure Facility
  • SCHOOLS ICT Recognized as A tool for use across the curriculum in separate subjects where the emphasis is on the development of ICT related skills , knowledge , process and attitudes.  A tool for enhancing students learning outcomes within the existing learning process. An integral component of broader curricular reforms , which will change not only how students learn but what they learn. As integral component of the reforms , which will alter the organization and structure of schooling itself. A tool to reduces the digital divide, i.e. the gap between the technology rich and technology poor , both within and between the societies.
  • CHALLENGES There are three main challenges before integration of ICT in school education. Integration of ICT in Pedagogical Practices. Use of latest technology by the teacher during imparting teaching. Use of ICT in the Classroom for subject teaching. Use of E-content during covering of Syllabus. Lesson plan as per available E-content. Use of ICT for Learning Access of internet both by the Teachers and Students. Proper use of resource to find out the solution faced during covering syllabus.
  • PEDAGOGICAL ASPECTS LEARNING BENEFITS ICT has the potential to transform learning in and beyond the classroom.  It can also in certain circumstances transcend previous limitations of space and time. students can access enormous amounts of information quickly. students can work at their own pace special needs, both remedial and extension, can be offered during the same lesson
  • PEDAGOGICAL ASPECTS LEARNING BENEFITS course material can be offered simultaneously in different languages students can access quality material irrespective of their geographical location academic courses can be offered asynchronously students can interact with peers and experts outside the classroom, town, and/or country ICT offers a host of different tools to demonstrate learning suitable for divergent and different intelligences young students have readily accepted the technology.
  • PEDAGOGICAL ASPECTS TEACHING BENEFITS ICT can, via multimedia, improve the richness of the learning experience ICT can track a students progress and proficiency at certain skills They allow the teacher to focus on process rather than product Diagnostic tools allow the teacher to identify learning trends and problems Student work, created electronically, lends itself to Internet publishing and the creation of student portfolio work.
  • THREE TYPES OF LEARNING  Learning about ICT It refers to ICT skills , not how ICT can support learning. Learning from ICT It refers mainly to a behaviorist view of learning. Learning with ICT It refers to a constructive view of learning.
  • LEARNING OUTCOMES Gain an in-depth understanding of the developments of ICT in various national and cultural extents. Recognise the potential uses of new technologies to support learning in schools Develop critical awareness of young peoples new digital media skills and their implications for teaching and learning in schools Understanding the nature and implications of differential access to technology for educational and social inclusion.
  • NEW ROLES AND ADVANTAGES IN EDUCATION Students new role as a self learner , team member and knowledge manager. Teachers New role as designer , trainer, collaborator, team co-ordinator, creator and evaluator of knowledge. Technology facilitates the updating of educational materials It confirms the interaction between the teachers and students Technology provided the chance to teach and learn any time any where It removes obstacles. Technology allows students to have more control over their won learning , to think analytically and critically and to work collaboratively.
  • ICT@SCHOOL IN ODISHA Vendor has been finalized to implement the ICT project under BOOT model in 4000 Schools. Schools has been finalized and implementation started at School level. OKCL is the nodal agency to implement the project on behalf of School & Mass Education Deptt. Govt. Of Odisha. The e-Content for Class IX and Class X has been developed as per the State Syllabus. Process of Teachers training has been started. ICT scheme benefits to : 4000 Govt. and Govt. Aided High Schools 5.59 Lakhs Students 20000 Teachers.
