  5. 5. Excellence in schooling needs convergence of vision between Policy makers, Practitioners and Educationists
  6. 6. <ul><li>School education encompasses all modes </li></ul><ul><li>Formal and Open learning </li></ul><ul><li>Covers all levels namely from elementary to senior secondary </li></ul><ul><li>General Education, Vocational Education, Enrichment Education and Lifelong Learning </li></ul>
  7. 7. Access and Equity <ul><li>Reaching rural and remote areas </li></ul><ul><li>Reaching vulnerable groups – culturally /religiously sensitive groups </li></ul><ul><li>Differently abled persons </li></ul><ul><li>Marginalized Groups </li></ul>
  8. 8. Access, equity, curriculum and content, issues of equivalence, teacher training, resource management, infrastructure development Challenges facing School Education
  9. 9. Curriculum and Content -Encouraging children to construct their own knowledge -Greater freedom to the child in choice of subjects -Differentiated pace of learning in subjects -Opportunity for lifelong learning
  10. 10. Adaptation of Materials <ul><li>Contextualizing for local use </li></ul><ul><li>Developing a sense of ownership amongst learners and teachers </li></ul>

Teacher Training <ul><li>Teacher is the critical for improving the quality of the programme </li></ul><ul><li>Teacher need to be empowered academically </li></ul><ul><li>Opportunity for self-development of the teacher </li></ul><ul><li>Recognition and respect for the school teacher </li></ul>
