Karel Jaromír Erben was born 7th November 1811 in Miletín and died 21st November 1870 in Prague. He is main performer of the Czech Romantic literature. He was writer, poet, historian, lawyer and archivist. He translated books too and collected Czech folk songs and fairy tales. After graduating from high school in Prague, he studied philosophy and law. He deserved for a better knowledge of Czech literature, especially folk literature.
His most famous work is Bouquets: It is a set of 13 ballads. Ballad is lyrical-epic poem with a grim, tragic story, and end. There are supernatural beings here. The main thing is peoples views on morality - for any wrongdoing to morality comes a harsh punishment, which rarely reduces some wrongdoers atonement. All the ballads have a female main character. Most are mothers who somehow offend to their children, despite the undoubted maternal loved them. In the book there are separate beings, the effects of the mysterious force, a force of nature.
