  • 3. Different Types of Garden Lights
    • Spotlights :
      • To light certain details or features in the garden you can
    • choose spotlights. These spotlights can be directed and
    • are available in various models and materials
    • Uplights/Orientation lighting:
      • Another way to illuminate certain features is to
      • apply uplights, fittings which illuminate details from a
      • fixed position. (e.g. from the ground)
    • Post lighting:
      • Straight standing lighting can be placed along
    • pathways, on lawns and between plants.
    • These models are available with halogen lamps,
    • light bulbs and LED’s
    • Wall lighting:
      • Wall lighting is fitted with LED or halogen
      • lightsource. Simple to fix to fences/walls etc.

    • Convert solar energy into electricity
    • Typical efficiency of 50-100mW/in2
    • Useful in recharging batteries at remote
    • locations
    • Limited by availability of direct sunlight, size, and fragility
    • Solar cells are often electrically connected and
    • encapsulated as a module
    • Batteries are used to store the energy
    • that is not needed immediately.

  • 13. PWM Dimming Control
    • Many portable LED applications require
    • Dimming i.e. brightness control.
    • In applications such as LCD backlighting,
    • dimming provides brightness and contrast adjustment.
    • Two types of dimming are available:
    • 1) Analog 2) PWM method
    • With analog dimming, 50% brightness is achieved by applying 50% of the maximum current to the LED
    • PWM dimming is achieved by applying full current to the LED at a reduced duty cycle. For 50% brightness, full current is applied at a 50% duty cycle.
    • The Frequency of the PWM signal must be above 100 Hz to ensure that the PWM pulsing is not visible to the human eye
    • To provide the most flexibility and ease of integration, the LED driver should be able to accept PWM frequencies as high as 50 kHz.
