  • 2. LOCATION OF THE BRITISH ISLES The British Isles is a group of islands off the northwest coast of continental Europe. They are surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea, the English Channel, the Celtic Sea, St. George’s Channel, and the Irish Sea.
  • 3. CONSTITUENT COUNTRIES OF THE BRITISH ISLES The British Isles comprise Great Britain, Ireland, and a number of smaller islands (Isle of Man and Channel Islands). There are two sovereign states located on the islands: the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
  • 4. THE UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND The United Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy composed of four constituent countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
  • 5. THE UNION JACK The Union Flag (also known as the Union Jack ) is the national flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In its design it includes the flags of England, Scotland, and Ireland.

    • England is a country to the northwest of Continental Europe.It is the largest and most populous constituent country of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
