  3. 3. CD SHORT MANUAL branding > basics > sizes > colors Combined Word/Picture Mark x x x x x 3 31,6 x z 5x electronica 2012 5x x x N x Typographically, the word mark itself consists of two elements— the word “electronica” in the font Frutiger (Linotype) Bold, followed by the year in Frutiger Light. The space between the word and the number is determined by the width of the letter “N” in Frutiger Light. The letter heights of both elements are visually (!) aligned. The word mark always appears to the right of the picture mark at a tangent to the latter’s clearance zone. Its vertical position is determined by the extended horizontal central axis of the picture mark. The space to be kept free for the combined word/picture mark is an extension of the picture mark dimension specifications. Using the same value for (x) on both the left and right sides creates an overall homogeneous look. CD Short Manual > // 03
  4. 4. CD SHORT MANUALbranding> basics> sizes> colorsThe Claiminside tomorrow The electronica claim, i.e. “inside tomorrow, always appears in e-red and ” Frutiger 45 Light. It should be easy to read and present, and it may be used alone or together with the logo. Its size depends on the respective design requirements. CD Short Manual > // 4
  5. 5. CD SHORT MANUALbranding> basics> sizes> colorsThe Claim with Word/Picture Mark electronica 2012 inside tomorrowAs a rule, the claim “inside tomorrow” is used to supplement theword/picture mark. The claim should be in Frutiger 45 Light in e-red. Exact color speci-fications can be found on Page 10 of the Style Guide. The font sizeof the claim is derived from the stipulated width from the “r” in theword electronica to the end of the year. The distance from the logoto the claim is the same height as the “e. ” CD Short Manual > // 05
  6. 6. CD SHORT MANUAL branding > basics > sizes > colors Additional information block in German and English. An additional information block that con- tains the dates of the fair and other details can also be added to the electronica logo. If working with DIN A4 format, the additional information should have a font size of 11 pt and a line spacing of 14 pt. The additional 25. Weltleitmesse für Komponenten, information block should be in Frutiger 45 Systeme und Anwendungen der Elektronik Light and 100% black. Only the first “e” Messe München in the web address should be in e-red. The 13.–16. November 2012 distance between the bottom edge of the claim and the x-height of the first line of www.electronica.de the information block is defined as two “e” heights. If the logo and the additional information block are used in countries outside the Ger- man-speaking region, always be sure to use the English information block. Otherwise, the same guidelines apply as for the German version. The only difference is, in the Eng- lish version, the date is written with a long 25th International Trade Fair for “em” dash. When working with an -s in the Electronic Components, Systems and Applications possessive case in English, be sure to also Messe München use an English apostrophe (example: ’s (sin- November 13–16, 2012 gular) or s’ (plural and words ending in “s”). The name “Messe München” remains un- www.electronica.de changed in English. As a rule, the additional information block 53 mm is easy to read in font sizes as little as 7 pt. If the logo is smaller than 53 mm wide, we recommend not using the additional infor- mation block or using it independently of the logo.25th International Trade Fair forElectronic Components, Systems and ApplicationsMesse MünchenNovember 13–16, 2012www.electronica.de CD Short Manual > // 06
  7. 7. CD SHORT MANUAL branding > basics > sizes > colors Logo Sizes The sizes of the word/picture mark apply internationally. Available file formats have been optimized for the various sizes. The general guidelines for professional implementation in offset and silkscreen printing as well as in special printing forms should be observed at all times. electronica electro components | systems | ap When working with format sizes of A2 and larger, the logotype should have a minimum width of 257 mm (here as a sample repre- sentation). 257 mm > The standard size of the logotype for the classic A4 format is 83 mm. For smaller DIN formats, advertisement formats and special formats, the size of the branding is deter- mined by layout requirements. When working with formats larger than A4, the logotype should be adapted to suit the 83 mm relevant format and layout requirements. The most important aspects to consider are the purpose of the communications medium and the professional appearance of the layout. If the logo is used together with the claim, the total width should never be less than 36.5 mm. If the logo is smaller than that, the claim should no longer be used because it 36.5 mm would be too difficult to read. The additional information block should never be used with extremely small versions of the logo. The logotype must be at least 15.5 mm wide but its maximum width is virtually unlimited. electronica 2012 15.5 mm 2008 ∞ CD Short Manual > // 07
  8. 8. CD SHORT MANUAL branding > basics > sizes > colors Combination of Logo Colors. The colored logo consists of black and two decorative colors, applied in the form of a gradient for offset printing. The color can be reproduced in one of two ways:Offset printing4c or 3/0 color 1. As a four-color print using Euroscale colors. 2. Using the special color e-green: HKS 64 or Pantone 354 and the special color e-red: HKS 14 K or Pantone Red 032. In the case of silkscreen printing, the rasteri-Silkscreen printing zation of the logo (a 28 or 34 raster) dependsFlock printing on the size of the representation. For repro-... ductions smaller than 10 mm (e.g. for pro-3/0 color motional items), we recommend using solid green and red colors without any gradient.Offset printing in b/wFax documents When printing the logo in black and white,... the green and red portions of the original symbol should be replaced with the corre- sponding black ones. As a general rule, one should always make sure that the logo is printed in true-color quality. When using ink plots and specially coated papers, coordinating and approving the details is the responsibility of the project manager and/or designer. Special cases In special cases, the logo may be used against a dark background. In this case, both the claim and the word mark should appear in white. However, using the logo in this way should be an exception—a white back- ground is generally preferred. CD Short Manual > // 08
  9. 9. CD SHORT MANUAL branding > basics > sizes > colors Using the Logo.Permitted The logo works best against a white, neutral background, something that should always be taken into account, the layout permitting. Use of the colored logo against an e-red, HKS 14 or Pantone Red 032 background is not permitted. Nor is the use of the logo against various shades of the above-men- tioned background colors allowed. The logo should only be used against a photographic background if recognition is guaranteed. As a general rule, the logo should not appear on photographs, but should instead be posi- tioned outside the photograph. Not permitted The color guideline for e-red also applies to the Internet, animated sequences and films, although the 3D effects and contrast in mo- tion must be taken into account for special moods, backgrounds, etc. but Picture mark alone electronica 2008 against an e-red back- ground is possibleNot permitted The logo may never be used at an angle or vertically. Vertical use is only permit- ted on the spines of books and catalogs. Its use in a proper, horizontal manner is to be given urgent consideration in all forms of representation. 10. 10. CD SHORT MANUALcolors and color systemelectronica’s Primary Colorselectroinca’s main colors form the foundation on which the entirecolor system is based. These key colors are e-red, e-green, whiteand black.electronica’s e-red is the primary brand feature. It should only be usedfor the “e” in the claim and the first “e” of the word “electronica”appearing in headlines, sub-headlines and normal copy. The onlyexception to the above rule is when the word “electronica” is written e-red:in capitals. In such cases, red should not be used as there is no red Special color HKS 14 Kcapital “E” in electronica’s CD.The red “e” in Frutiger Bold can also be used on its own in the rest Pantone Red 032of the layout to reinforce the reference to the branding. 11. 11. CD SHORT MANUALfonts and typographyRange of Fonts used for electronica. The fonts and typography used for electronica are fundamental in Frutiger 45 Lightensuring the fair’s instant recognition.Frutiger is a sans-serif antiqua font. Its formal criteria correspondto electronica’s needs. It communicates clarity, objectivity, rationalityand, not least, dynamism as the most important criterion for a leadinginternational exhibition. Frutiger 65 BoldThe primary members of the electronica font family are Frutiger Lightand Frutiger Bold. Frutiger Roman may also be used if needed. FrutigerLight Condensed and Frutiger Bold Condensed have also been includedin the font family (font provider: Linotype) as slimline styles specificallyfor use in graphic representations and image captions. Frutiger 55 RomanAll design challenges at electronica can be met perfectly using thesefonts and styles.Headlines and sub-headlines that appear on photographic backgrounds Frutiger 47 Light Condensedshould generally be written in lowercase letters. In regular copy, the word electronica must always appear with the first“e” in the word in e-red. 12. 12. CD SHORT MANUAL design elements > rounded corner > “e” Design elements— Rounded corner x x One of electronica’s design elements is the rounded corner, which appears in pictures as well as graphic elements. x x The rounded corner has its origins in the elec- tronica logo. A circle is placed over the picture mark and extended to the edges of the pro- tection zone. The circle for the rounded cor- ner is 140% the size of the picture mark. This principle should always be used when creating the rounded corner. If elements that contain this rounded corner are scaled or altered, en- sure that the rounded corner is not distorted. Each design element should only contain one rounded corner. Because the logo works best against a white background, it is frequently combined with a 3 mm white box with a rounded corner. When work- ing with DIN A4 format, the distance from the logo to upper edge of the box is 3 mm, 4.5 mm and the distance to the left edge of the box is 4.5 mm. This distance increases or decreases proportionally when scaling. 25. Weltleitmesse für Komponenten, Systeme und Anwendungen der Elektronik Neue Messe München 13.-16. 13. 13. CD SHORT MANUALdesign elements> rounded corner> “e”Design elements—“e” The “e” in electronica is not only used in reg- ular copy to make it stand out. It can also be used as a design element—either in solid red or as a grey outline. Both variants may also be combined with one another. The “e” can also be used together with pic- tures. This reoccurring style element is an ef- fective way to promote and emphasize the topic of electronics. The layout artist is re- sponsible for selecting the right number and locations of the “e’s. As a rule, no more than ” three “e’s” should be used on small pictures such as those in brochures, for example. The lines that accompany them may vary between white, grey or black, depending on the back- ground of the picture. CD Short Manual > // 13
