Transcript of "Welcome to my Portfolio "

  1. 1. Welcome to my Portfolio Erin L. Delaney erin.delan@gmail.com
  2. 2. About Me I love variety, challenges, team work, and telling stories. And I’ve got quite the eclectic writing background to prove it- as Walt Whitman writes, "I am large, I contain multitudes." For the last four years, I’ve balanced being a freelance writer with being an adjunct college instructor. I’ve prepped composition and literature curriculum writing and teaching, while writing poetry or blogging as well as editing others business copy, books, and resumes. I especially have enjoyed interviewing others, creating human interest pieces and features, as well as creating debates and arguments in my classrooms on current events and pop culture related topics. Read on to take a look at some of my work.
  3. 3. MY WORK IN ACTION Henry David Thoreau writes, ”Simplify, Simplify.” The most effective words are said simply and accurately, and I believe that writing and performing poetry has prepared me best in the creation of meaningful and powerful writing. • Faculty Poetry Feature at Misericordia University’s Speaker Series: From Mouth to Mic: Waxing Poetic II, 2013. • Poetry Feature at New Visions Monthly Writers Showcase and Poetry Reading, 2012.Published poem “Rebirth” in Cover to Cover to Cover, 2008. • Featured Poetry at the Scranhattan Festival, Scranton, PA. 2008. • Published “The Audience” with Poetry-in-Transit LCTA program, 2008. • Wilkes University MA Program Slam Poetry winner, 2005.
  4. 4. One of my favorite aspects of writing is interviewing. I’ve interviewed authors, plastic surgeons, spa and salon owners, nude art models, mattress store owners, dance instructors, motivational speakers, musicians, and actors to produce business profiles, copy, human interest pieces, and articles for business websites, weeklies such as: The Weekender and Philadelphia City Paper, and national publications such as: The Woman's Newspaper. http://archives.citypaper.net/articles/2008/01/24/how-we-work “Thanks for all your hard work and creativity.” – Marshall Partington, M.D. FACS “Erin consistently delivers written pieces within the specified scope and on time.” –Vatrice Chestnut, Birmingham Woman’s Newspaper
  5. 5. As an adjunct college instructor and a book editor, deadlines and shifting priorities is a must. Researching, checking information accuracy, editing and proofreading, and then communicating material effectively to students or other writers is essential to being successful. “Erin knows her stuff! She manages to fix the things that need fixing in a manuscript without losing the author’s voice. A rare talent.” – Paul Barretta, Owner of Talent Clearing House, Inc. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Do-the- Devils-Work-for-Him-by-Amy-Sciarretto-Rick- Florino/84602634811
  6. 6. Copywriting Product Description Copy for graphic designer. “I worked briefly with Erin at Sakari Salon. She helped me with a web project, writing web content for the site. Erin's work on Sakari's bios was creative. She helped edit and reflect each person's unique qualities. I would definitely work with her again.” -Valerie Horchos @ Wyde Eyed Design Studio
  7. 7. BLOGS- Grow and Retain Community The Little Blueberry currently has received over 255,000 pageviews. Chickadee’s 2006 Appalachian Trail Journal received over 43,000 hits in 11 months.
