Healing Photo Art Brochure - Presentation Transcript

    1. “When I am scuba diving, I see incredibly colored fish and coral. When I am driving around the Tuscan hills, I feel the peace and tranquility of this land. When I am hiking in the Dolomite mountains with my husband and my little Yorkie, I smell the fresh, crisp air. My hope is that my photos trans- mit these colors, feelings and scents to all the patients who view them.” Elaine Poggi
    2. The Foundation for Photo/Art in Hospitals is a non-profit publicly supported organization whose purpose is to alleviate the cold and sterile hospital environment by placing beautiful photographs of nature in hospitals and healthcare facilities. The Foundation was established in 2002 by pho- tographer Elaine Poggi who turned her personal tragedy of the loss of her mother into a world-wide campaign to bring light, color, soothing images, comfort and hope to patients and their families in hospitals around the globe.
    3. “I have looked at your photo for many hours, dreaming the whole time that I was there.” A patient “Through viewing these pictures, a new window to life is opened for our patients, which gives them greater appreciation for the beauty and variety found in nature and the world. Thank you for assisting us in caring for the needs of the entire patient – mind, body, and spirit.” A Hospital Administrator in Kenya “We tend to associate hospitals with sadness but Elaine’s photos change this perception. Her colorful images offer a window of color, memory, and discovery, which is integral to any healing process. Changing people’s lives, room by room, wall by wall...these are the beacons of light and hope our world needs, day by day.” A friend
    4. “I have always believed in the transformational power of art; in its ability to move and engage people, and to bring them together. The true reward from working with the Foun- dation was seeing your photography transform the doctors’ and patients’ eyes, igniting, as it seemed, hope and joy.” A volunteer, coordinator of a project for a hospital in Poland “You have no idea the effect your pictures have caused, both the hospital staff and the pa- tients were incredible happy! ...they had a patient, she is a 16 year old mother who has a 3 month old baby, both HIV+. The condition of the baby is critical, the girl is very poor, she’s been in the hospital for 3 weeks, and when we hung the pictures she went out, smiled and said to us: “Finally something that gives me a reason to smile in this place”!” A healthcare student, coordinator of a project for a hospital in Venezuela
