In the heart of Conway, Arkansas, the Village at Hendrix, a community both next door to and part of Hendrix College, evokes the small town of yesteryear, with marketplaces, nature trails, and local shops and restaurants all within walking distance of every home.

“While Hendrix College wanted attractive housing options for faculty, students and staff, you don’t have to be associated with the school to be part of the Village,” says Beth Tyler, Director of Sales and Marketing for the Village at Hendrix. “We have first-time home buyers and retirees – people of all ages, income and lifestyles – as part of our community.”

The Village at Hendrix was designed to replicate the best of a community of the past, but the strategy being used to market it is firmly rooted in the present through the Village’s Ektron website, TheVillageAtHendrix.com.

Our Website is One of Our Most Important Marketing Channels

“The homes are rarely what first interest people in the Village,” says Tyler. “Rather, it’s the overarching concept of neighborhood and lifestyle. We needed a site that would tell a story and explain what it felt like to live in the Village. It’s a great feeling when potential customers visit and tell us our story. I can tell they’ve read and retained information from our site. Our website is one of our most important marketing channels.”

Although technically part of the Hendrix College site, the Village of Hendrix is its own web entity, with its content maintained by Beth Tyler and a small, ever-changing staff of student interns.

“The Village site has Ektron PageBuilder as the core functionality,” notes Jay Burling, Director of Web Applications at Hendrix College. “Every page is a PageBuilder page so that Beth and her team have the ability to go in and easily tweak the content of the page to fit their needs.”

Ektron PageBuilder and Smart Forms for Easy Content Creation

As with the Hendrix College website, the Village at Hendrix is powered through Ektron 8.5, with the home page and other pages created with PageBuilder, a drag-and-drop interface allowing content authors to enter text, images, video, and other site features quickly and easily.

“Especially because there’s so much intern turnover, it’s really great to work with a system that is so easy to learn and user-friendly,” adds Tyler. “With Ektron, the site can be adjusted easily, and that has a huge impact on our productivity. We can change the site content at the speed we need to work.”
