  1. 1. RECONCILIATION THE LORD JESUS CHRIST HAS WILLED THAT HIS CHURCH CONTINUE HIS WORK OF HEALING AND SALVATION EVEN AMONG HER OWN MEMBERS. PURPOSE OF THE TWO SACRAMENTS OF HEALING: PENANCE AND ANOINTING OF THE SICK
  2. 2. SACRAMENT OF CONVERSION BECAUSE IT MAKES SACRAMENTALLY PRESENT, THE CALL OF JESUS TO CONVERSION, THE FIRST STEP IN RETURNING TO THE FATHER FROM WHOM ONE HAS STRAYED FROM SIN
  3. 3. SACRAMENT OF PENANCE SINCE IT CONSECRATES THE CHRISTIAN SINNER’S PERSONAL AND ECCLESIAL STEPS OF CONVERSION, PENANCE AND, SATISFACTION
  4. 4. SACRAMENT OF CONFESSION THE DISCLOSURE OR CONFESSION OF SIN IS AN ESSENTIAL ELEMENT OF THIS SACRAMENT AS CONFESSION, IT IS AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AND PRAISE OF THE HOLINESS OF GOD AND OF HIS MERCY TOWARDS SINFUL MAN
  5. 5. SACRAMENT OF FORGIVENESS SINCE BY THE PRIEST’S SACRAMENTAL ABSOLUTION GOD GRANTS THE PENITENT PARDON AND PEACE.
  6. 6. SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION SINCE IT IMPARTS TO THE SINNER THE LOVE OF GOD WHO RECONCILES
  7. 7. THE NEW LIFE RECEIVED IN CHRISTIAN INITIATION HAS NOT ABOLISHED THE FRAILTY AND WEAKNESS OF HUMAN NATURE NOR THE INCLINATION TO SIN CALLED BY THE CHURCH AS CONCUPISCENCE HENCE THERE IS A NEED FOR CONTINUOUS CONVERSION THROUGH THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION
  8. 8. ACTS OF THE PENITENT CONTRITION THE SORROW AND DETESTATION OF THE SOUL FOR THE SIN COMMITTED TOGETHER WITH THE RESOLUTION NOT TO COMMIT SIN AGAIN
  9. 9. CONFESSION OF SINS THROUGH SUCH AN ADMISSION, MAN LOOKS SQUARELY AT THE SINS HE IS GUILTY OF, TAKES RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEM AND THEREBY OPENS HIMSELF AGAIN TO GOD AND TO THE COMMUNION OF THE CHURCH
  10. 10. SATISFACTION ONE MUST DO WHAT IS POSSIBLE TO REPAIR THE HARM. RAISED UP FROM SIN, ONE MUST STILL RECOVER HIS FULL SPIRITUAL HEALTH BY DOING SOMETHING MORE TO MAKE AMENDS FOR THE SIN: HE MUST MAKE “SATIFACTION FOR” OR EXPIATE HIS SINS. THIS SATISFACTION IS ALSO CALLED PENANCE.
  11. 11. MINISTER OF THIS SACRAMENT THE BISHOPS, WITH THE PRIEST AS THEIR COLLABORATOR BY VIRTUE OF THEIR ORDINATION HAVE THE POWER TO FORGIVE ALL SINS IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, AND OF THE SON, AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.
  12. 12. EFFECT OF THIS SACRAMENT RECONCILIATION WITH GOD IS THE PURPOSE AND EFFECT OF THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION BRINGS ABOUT A TRUE “SPIRITUAL RESURRECTION” RESTORATION OF THE DIGNITY AND THE BLESSINGS OF THE LIFE OF THE CHILDREN OF GOD
  13. 13. RECONCILIATION WITH THE CHURCH THE SACRAMENT OF PANANCE REPAIRS OR RESTORES OUR FRATERNAL COMMUNION THE SINNER IS MADE STRONGER BY THE EXCHANGE OF SPRITUAL GOODS AMONG ALL THE LIVING MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH
