and First encounter with Sayyida
Khadija
Knowledge is worship of the heart, the
prayer of the innermost, and the inward
act of drawing close to Allah - Al-Ghazali
2. Prophet‟s honesty
As shown in the previous lesson, the Prophet
became a merchant.
He would trade with people from Makkah and
Syria.
Prophet‟s trustworthiness and honesty became
the talk of the town.
Everyone would refer to him as Al-Amin.
Honesty is important in business.
3. Khadija as a business woman
Highly successful business woman.
She would hire traders on a profit sharing basis.
(Short term partnership)
All her goods were equivalent to the goods of
Quraysh put together.
4. Prophet & Khadija‟s first bussiness
partnership
She heard about the Prophet‟s honesty and
decided to hire the Prophet for a business
partnership.
She offered the Prophet double the amount of
profit compared to normal traders.
She sent her slave „Maysarah‟ with the Prophet.
5. The second journey to Syria
They reached Busra where the Prophet took
shade under a tree.
A monk named Nastura who lived nearby
approached either the Prophet or Maysarah and
said, “From Isa Bin Marayam right up to this
present moment no other prophet sat beneath
this tree”.
The monk said “Surely this is the Prophet. this is
the final messenger.
6. While on the trip someone demanded the Prophet
take an oath to Laat and Uzza.
The Prophet refused and said “I have never taken
an oath even if I come across them I try to avoid
them all together.]
Maysarah mentions while returning in the severe
heat, she saw two angels shading the Prophet.
Khadija in Makkah also noticed a miracle.
7. Critically analyse this incident
This incident is mentioned by Waqidi, Muhammed
Ibn Ishaq and Ibn Sakan.
Ibn Sakan and Muhammed Ibn Ishaq were tabi‟i.
Waqidi was a student of Imam Malik and Sufyan
Thawri.
They are known as the Imams of Sirah.
8. Contd.
Muhammed ibn Ishaq & Ibn Sakan were
considered reliable.
Waqidi was declared unreliable. However, many
imams benefitted from his books.
This incident would be Hasan (Satisfactory) as
two other narrators of Sirah have also mentioned
it.
9. Lesson learned from Incident
Humans can see angles.
The cloud following the Prophet was irregular,
meaning a cloud would not follow the Prophet
every time he was outside.

She was twice married before.

Maysarah died before the Prophet was granted Prophethood. As Ibn Hajar mentions there is no single hadith proving her Sahabiyat.
