Task 8 - Primary research into my target Task 8 - Primary research into my target Presentation Transcript

    • Task 8 - Primary research into my target audience Emily Hymus http:// mmasehymus.blogspot.co.uk/p/research.html
    • My type of primary research I Question 1: HOW collected was done using a questionnaire. My first OLD ARE YOU? question displayed the age range of people who took my questionnaire. I asked a range of different ages to complete my questionnaire aged between 16 and 24.The majority of participants were aged between 16 and 18. Although, I was able to find some participants in the higher age category, however this meant I wasn’t able to get a varied perspective as most are from one age band.
    • Question 2: ARE YOU MALE OR FEMALE?I made sure my questionnaire was given evenly between males and females, this enabled me to see a varied view between genders. I gave 10 males the questionnaire and 10 females the questionnaire.
    • Question 3: WHERE DO YOU RECEIVE YOUR INCOME?I asked my participants where they received their money. The majority of my target audience said either from a part-time job or received money from their parents. This shows that my target audience should be able to afford to watch my film.
    • Question 4: WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?My data from this question shows that the majority of my target audience spend more of their time watching films and going to the cinema in their free time than anything else. This is good because it shows that films are popular with people within my target audience which implies my film will be successful and appeal to my target audience.
    • Question 5: WHAT MEDIA DO YOU CONSUME THE MOST?These result are helpful because it shows my target audience use lots of different media therefore each of the types would be a good place for my film to be advertised. It also shows that my target audience mainly go to the cinema therefore success of the film within my target audience is quite likely. As the second largest type of media my target audience consume is TV, I will make sure that my film is advertised on the TV to attract a large audience.
    • Question 6: WHAT ASPECTS DO YOU ENJOY THE MOSY ABOUT THE MEDIA YOU CONSUME?Most of the participants were quite brief about what they enjoy most. A lot suggested that they enjoy media because it was a form of entertainment such as music, films and social networking. I received answers such as it’s nice to be able to contact people easily and media is a good way of keeping up to date with the latest films and music. Some participants said media can be a form of relaxation for them. Thriller films are not known for being relaxing therefore it will take a lot to persuade this area of my audience to come and view the film. I need to make sure my storyline is exciting and attracts a large audience.
    • Question 7: WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE THRILLER FILMS?This was a good question to ask my participants because from the films they suggested it gave me a good insight into what they thought was a successful thriller film and perhaps use ideas into my own opening sequence. Most films such as ‘In Time’ and ‘Inception’ included a male main character and a villain character. From this I can see that the most successful films include this convention therefore it will be taken into consideration when finally deciding ideas for my opening sequence. A lot of the suggested films also include a very stressful climax so I know that my idea will have to include suspense building scenes and a intriguing climax. A lot of the films included lots of violence and fighting, therefore action will be in my idea.
    • Question 8: HOW WOULD YOU RATE MY THRILLER FILM IDEA FROM 1 BEING THE WORSE UP TO 10 BEING THE BEST?This shows that my idea is quite a good one however there could be improvements made to it as one participant scored it as low as 3-4. I will use my suggested improvement feedback to gain ideas and to adapt to my idea.
    • Question 9: HOW COULD MY IDEA BE IMPROVED?My final question gained suggested improvements to my idea. The most frequent answer I received was to include more action in the film as this would make my idea more exciting and it would hold more suspense. Some suggestions I am not using such as making the hero character a female as this would not fit the conventions of a thriller film and I am not planning on challenging the conventions. Another idea I received was to add more mysterious characters in my idea as there is not a lot of suspense held and it is all quite predictable. I will use this suggestion and go on to adapt my final idea.
