• 1. Mr. Hubbard’s Class Expectations
 • 2. The stakes have never been higher…

You MUST pass the End of Course (EOC) test at the end of the year to pass this class…

 • 3. Prairie Grove Smart Goal

All Prairie Grove Schools will be among the top five (5) schools, in the 4-A Classification, based on the NCE ranking for MAT 8/SAT 10 and percentage of students proficient and advanced on each Benchmark and End of Course exams in both math and literacy by the spring of 2013.

 • 4. My goal…

Each of my Algebra 1 students will score either Proficient or Advanced on the Algebra 1 End of Course.

 • 5. About Grading in Class…

All tests and quizzes will count for 75% of your final grade. Homework will account for 25% of your final grade.

I will have a warm-up assignment at the beginning of each class. These assignments will be taken up periodically and graded.

I will also conduct regular notebook checks to see that you are taking notes in class. These will be graded periodically as well and you could receive some bonus for these notebook checks.

 • 6. About Homework

I will try my best to provide class time for you to ask questions and get started on your homework.

We will have at least 3-5 assignments a week

My goal is for you to rarely have more than 15-30 minutes of homework a night.

 • 7. About Homework (con’t)

Your homework will be taken up with your notebook

Each homework notebook will be worth 100 points and they will be graded for completion and right/wrong

Late work will automatically be deducted 50%

 • 8. Punishment for Missing Work

If you fail to complete your homework or complete less than 25% of your work, there WILL be consequences.

You can expect a parent notification.

You will be required to come to either morning or afternoon tutoring until it is caught up.

Those who fail to show up (without an excuse), will be sent to the office.

 • 9. My 3 basic expectations…

Respect...

Others

The classroom

Class time

 • 10. Respecting Others

Peers and Teachers

No talking while I am talking.

Raise your hand and wait to be called on before answering

Leave your attitude at the door.

Do not bully or hinder the performance of your classmates in any way.

 • 11. Respect the Classroom

Respect the…

Books

Calculators

Desks

Any element within the classroom

 • 12. Respect Class time

Take advantage of time given to you in class.

Be seated when the bell rings

Be ready and prepared when class starts. Read and follow the directions on the screen, begin doing your warm-up.

When I ask you to work, you need to be on-task and working. This will limit the amount of homework you have.

 • 13. Other Things you need to know…

All expectations mentioned in the handbook will be enforced in class as well

Cell phones- they WILL either be taken up or you will be written up if they are caught in use or I suspect they are being used. My suggestion is to keep them put away because if I see them then I will assume that they are being used.

Homework will be given regularly, if you fail to turn in a notebook, then you will be subject to disciplinary action. This may include: a requirement to go to tutoring before or after school and parent notification.

I will keep track of tardies and hall passes. 3 Tardies will result in after-school detention and you will have only 2 hall passes per 9 weeks.

 • 14. So what if I decide to be an idiot and not follow the expectations?

You will receive a slip of paper to fill out stating

What you did?

What you should have done?

What you will do next time?

 • 15. Here are the steps for punishment (generally)

First slip- Warning

Second slip- I will contact your parents

Third slip- Morning detention (You will have to be in my room by 7:15, EVEN IF YOU HAVE 1 ST HOUR ATHLETICS)

Fourth slip- Morning detention, meeting with Principal

Fifth slip- Pink slip, sent to the office

I reserve the right to skip steps or give you a different punishment.

 • 16. When you use a hall pass…

You must sign out in the folder in a hall pass blank.

In the blank, you will put the date and time and I will have to initial it for you to leave.

You will need to take a hall pass to leave the classroom.

Use your hall passes and time between classes wisely. You are here to learn.

 • 17. In-class Activity

Pretend that you all are a part of a tribe. As part of your duty in the tribe, you have been asked to go get oranges for the whole tribe. The tribe leader wants for you to be sure that you get enough oranges for everybody. The tribe leader also asks for you not to get any extra oranges. Here is the catch; you have no concept of numbers. Numbers don’t exist yet. Any answer that has anything to do with numbers will be wrong. How can you provide oranges for the tribe?
