Clutter robs you of energy and creativity that you could be spending on your real work.

Think of clutter as the difference between going home at 5:00 and working until 7:00.

Misperceptions in Office Organizing

Perception
All office paper is important to keep.

Reality
Systems are already in place for managing the organization’s important papers.

Be ruthless with any paper that doesn’t already have a filing system.

Perception
Project-related paperwork is critically important forever.

Reality
The minute a project is over, most of that paper becomes worthless.

Decide whether this piece of paper is a business record or a memento.

Perception
You don’t have the authority to make decisions about the office’s stuff.

Reality
Being a member of the team gives you a share in responsibility for the space.

Follow your common sense. When in doubt, ask permission for keep/toss decisions.

Six Simple Organizing Strategies for the Office

Evaluate the contents of desk drawers.
