  • 5. “The most important moment in my mind in the history of Facebook occurred in July 2006.” He’s referring to the day they turned down a $1B offer from Yahoo and was making a point that companies with a plan don’t sell. He went on to say at that time only Google and eBay had turned down $1B offers (goodMEMORABLE company to be in). Of course, we now have Groupon in that category and time will tell if that was the right move.QUOTES There is a good article regarding this quote in the Atlanta Black Star: http://atlantablackstar.com/2013/03/13/legendary- entrepreneur-venture-capitalist-peter-thiel-talks-facebook- at-sxsw/ sxsw13 DAILY RECAP © 2013 EffectiveUI, Inc. • 6. “Everything that takes longer than a year is considered unreal and fake. This is the offical religion that we have today.”MEMORABLE Peter said he didn’t subscribe to this religion but that it was real. And considering the audience was filled withQUOTES aspiring entrepreneurs, this comment will hopefully have a lasting impact. Nothing comes easy. It takes a plan ... and not just a 12 month plan. Many times throughout his speech Thiel emphasized the importance of the long haul. sxsw13 DAILY RECAP © 2013 EffectiveUI, Inc. All rights reserved.
  • 7. “A company with a lot of cash is out of ideas.”MEMORABLE Peter was making the point that companies with a lot of ideas need capital. They need to borrow or are seekingQUOTES investment capital to execute on their ideas. I wonder what he thinks about Apple. sxsw13 DAILY RECAP © 2013 EffectiveUI, Inc. All rights reserved.
