2. إِ نَّ عِدَّةَ الشُّهُورِ عِندَ اللَّـهِ اثْنَا عَشَرَ شَهْرًا فِي كِتَابِ اللَّـهِ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ مِنْهَا أَرْبَعَةٌ حُرُمٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ الدِّينُ الْقَيِّمُ ۚ فَلَا تَظْلِمُوا فِيهِنَّ أَنفُسَكُمْ ۚ وَقَاتِلُوا الْمُشْرِكِينَ كَافَّةً كَمَا يُقَاتِلُونَكُمْ كَافَّةً ۚ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّـهَ مَعَ الْمُتَّقِينَ ﴿٣٦﴾ Surely the number of months with Allah is twelve months in Allah's ordinance since the day when He created the heavens and the earth, of these four being sacred; that is the right reckoning; therefore be not unjust to yourselves regarding them, and fight the polytheists all together as they fight you all together; and know that Allah is with those who guard (against evil).(36)
3. محرّم 1. Muharram "Forbidden“ it is one of the four months during which it is forbidden to wage war or fight

5. ربيع الأوّل 3. Rabia Awal "First spring” Rabīʿ al-Awwal
6. Rabīʿ al-Thānī (or Rabīʿ al-Ākhir) (Rabīʿ II) 4. Rabia Thani ("Second spring") ربيع الآخر أو ربيع الثاني
7. (Jumādā I) Jumādā al-Ūlā 5. Jumaada Awal ("First freeze") جمادى الأولى
8. Jumādā al-Thānī (or Jumādā al-Ākhirah) (Jumādā II) 6. Jumaada Thani ("Second freeze") جمادى الآخرة أو جمادى الثانية
9. Rajab or Rajab al-Murājab 7. Rajab "To respect“ - this is another holy month when fighting is prohibited رجب
10. Shaʿbān or Shaʿbān al-Muʿaẓẓam 8. Sha'ban ("To spread and distribute") شعبان
11. Ramaḍān or Ramaḍān al-Mubārak Of all the months in the Islamic calendar, Ramadan is the most venerated. Muslims are required to abstain from eating, drinking any liquid, and sexual intercourse during the daylight hours of this month. 9. Ramadan ("Parched thirst" – this is the month of daytime fasting) رمضان
12. Shawwāl or Shawwāl al-Mukarram 10. Shawwal ("To be light and vigorous") شوّال
13. Dhū al-Qaʿda ( or Dhū al-Qiʿda) 11. Dhul-Qi'dah "The month of rest“ - another month when no warfare or fighting is allowed ذو القعدة
