  • 2. What is Fiction? Anything made up or imagined. ~Novel and Short Story
  • 3. What are CHARACTERS?
    • People who take part in the action of the story
    • PROTAGONIST -main character in a story
    • ANTAGONIST - force or person in conflict with the main character
  • 4. What are CHARACTERS?
    • Characters can also be classified in these parts:
    • Main – the most important characters
    • Minor – less important characters
  • 5. What is THEME and SETTING?
    • THEME -the main idea the author wishes to share with the reader
    • SETTING -time and place the story occurs present/past/future real/imaginary
  • 6. What is PLOT? EXPOSITION RISING ACTION CLIMAX FALLING ACTION RESOLUTION Chain of events that make up a story Conflict
  • 7. PLOT BREAKDOWN
    • EXPOSITION - opening of a story that gives background information, introduction to characters and sometimes the conflict is introduced
  • 8. PLOT BREAKDOWN
    • RISING ACTION - more complex actions occur, problems are more complicated and a desire to find out what happens next is created
  • 9. PLOT BREAKDOWN
    • CLIMAX- intensity of a story reaches a peak and a turning point in action occurs that affects the outcome of the ending
  • 10. PLOT BREAKDOWN
    • FALLING ACTION- intensity of the story subsides and the results of the major events wind down and are described
  • 11. PLOT BREAKDOWN
    • RESOLUTION ( denouement) - final part of a story that tells the ending and any loose ends are tied up and questions answered
