Domestic Upgrades
 Upgrade requests are cleared based on the window
applicable to your status level:
AAdvantage Executive Platinum® members 100 hours prior to departure
AAdvantage Platinum® members 72 hours prior to departure
AAdvantage Gold® members 24 hours prior to departure
AAdvantage non-elite status members*24 hours prior to departure
 Upgrade requests are prioritized first by status level, then by fare and finally by
the order in which they were upgraded. Request your upgrades early!
 It’s cheaper to buy your 500-mile upgrades online/at a kiosk

Systemwide Upgrades
 EXP members are awarded 8 per year they qualify/re-qualify.
 SWUs/eVIPs are valid on virtually ALL fare classes.
 SWUs/eVIPS are valid ONLY on American metal.
 SWUs are valid for a one-way, one-class upgrade on a paid
fare.
 SWUs are also earned at certain MM thresholds.
 Don’t forget to waitlist for the long segment.
