Aims & Objectives• To further the understanding of individual requirements in terms of the programme of study• To put into practice inclusive planning strategies• To highlight effective communication strategies and link theory to practice through guided personal study
Tutorial Information• Where possible I would like to have undertaken 1 observation by Christmas• I will use the practical time today to arrange tutorials
Inclusive Planning• In your groups you are to devise the following: A short 6 session scheme of work that covers a sequential body of knowledge of your choice. A full lesson plan for one of the sessions that covers inclusion strategies, assessment, teaching methods and a comprehensive rationale. In your rationale you are to invent a group with varying needs and state how you are going to address them. The group must be a minimum of 20 learners, have mixed cultural representations, learning needs and at least one example of an SEN. This can be decided by yourself. Hint: You can begin to link theory to practice for this exercise by incorporating some of the idioms used in the DTLLS classes. At the end of the exercise you will present your tasks to the rest of the group for discussion.
Feedback• Brief overview of scheme• Detail of 1 session• Why is the session inclusive?• Consider, timings and activities, are they realistic?• What is the SEN and how has it been catered for?• How has E&D been included? Any examples?
Effective Communication• In your groups you are to identify a list of verbal and non- verbal communication strategies.
Study Task / Reflection• Link theory to practice:• As part of your self-study programme you are to research and read the following:• David Berlo 1960• Eric Berne 1950• Claude Shannon 1949• Linda Wilson, Chapter 9, Practical teaching• Include anything else you discover, are there any more modern theories of communication? – share them with your peers.• The above will provide references on communication for your PDE, TRL, and RJ.• For example the PDE section 4 asks for a discussion on assessment and feedback issues.• We will have an informed discussion on these theories next week.
