    • Coasts
    • Definition? The coast is where the land meets the sea.
    • Why are coasts important?
    • The majority of the world’s population and major cities are within 200 metres of sea level.
    • Coasts are important to us.
    • Coasts are important habitats.
    • Coasts – People and the environment
    • Coastal areas can be hazardous. Coastal processes can affect people.
    • People can affect coasts. Coastal areas are managed and changed by people.
    • Oil spills destroy coastal environments
    • Coasts are dynamic systems constantly changing.
    • Waves
      • Waves are the agent of change.
      • Their energy erodes, transports and deposits material along the coast.
    • Tides
      • Every 12 hours 24 minutes the Earth rotates relative to the Moon. The gravitational pull of the Moon causes the rise and fall of the sea level.
      • High and Low Tides.
    • We will study… Waves Processes and landforms – erosion, transport and deposition Management of the coast Coral reefs (maybe)
