Shot types

 1. 1. Shot Type Power pointMahamedElmi
2. 2. EXTREME LONG SHOT
AN EXTREME LONG SHOT IS USED FOR VIEWS OF LANDSCAPES, OR ARCHITECTURE, ALSO THIS TYPE OF SHOT MAY BE THE POINT OF CHARACTER LOOKING OUT OVER A SCENERY.
A PANORAMIC SHOT OF THE SETTING WHICH THE TABLE WILL UNFOLD.
THE EXAMPLE OF THE EXTREME LONG SHOT IS FROM A MUSIC VIDEO (30 SECOND TO MARS – KINGS AND QUEENS) THIS SHOT USES A WIDE OUTLOOK OF A PICTURESQUE LANDSCAPE.
3. 3. LONG SHOT
IN THE MEDIA INDUSTRY FILM AND VIDEO A LONG SHOT IS SOMETIMES REFERRED TO AS A FULL SHOT OR A WIDE SHOT. IT SHOWS THE ENTIRE OBJECT OR HUMAN FIGURE AND IS USUALLY INTENDED TO PLACE IT IN SOME RELATION TO ITS SURROUNDINGS.
AN EXAMPLE OF A LONG SHOT IS ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE FROM THE MOVIE TITANIC, THIS IMAGE SOURCE WAS FOUND ON GOOGLE. THE LONG SHOT WORKS WELL HERE AS YOU CAN SEE THE MOVEMENT OF THE CHARACTERS WHICH SHOWS THERE FEELINGS AND MOTIONS AS WELL AS SEEING THE SCENERY THE CHARACTERS ARE BASED IN, ALSO THIS SHOT ALLOWS THE AUDIENCE TO SEE THE DRAMATIC ATMOSPHERE.
4. 4. MEDIUM SHOT
A MEDIUM SHOT SHOWS A CHARACTER FROM WAIST UPWARD, THE VIEWERS WILL BE ABLE TO SEE THE CHARACTERS PHYSICAL REACTIONS BUT THE BACKGROUND WILL BE LESS IMPORTANT, AND BE MORE OUT OF FOCUS.
THE MEDIUM SHOT WOULD BE THE TYPE OF SHOT TO BE USED FOR SHOWING A POINT OF VIEW OF A SEATED CHARACTER (OR ALSO CROUCHING LIKE IN MY EXAMPLE) LOOKING UP AT SOMEONE WHO IS STANDING.
THE EXAMPLE OF THE MEDIUM SHOT IS FROM THE MOVIE THE DARK KNIGHT, HERE IT SHOWS TWO CHARACTERS THE CHARACTER WHICH IS CLOSER TO THE SCREEN (AUDIENCE) IS MORE DEFINED AND SHARPER COMPARED TO THE CHARACTER IN THE DISTANCE WHICH IS BLURRY AND HAS LESS CAMERA FOCUS.
5. 5. CLOSE UP
A CLOSE UP IS A SHOT OF A CHARACTERS HEAD AND SHOULDERS, THERE IS NOT MUCH BACKGROUND SETTING SHOWN IN THIS SHOT. THE CLOSE UP IS USED TO SHOW THE CHARACTERS EMOTIONAL RESPONSE, SHOWING ALL THERE REACTIONS TO THERE FACIAL FEATURES.
THIS SHOT IS FOR SOWING A CHARACTER EXPERIENCING A MOMENT OF STRONG EMOTION.
THE EXAMPLE USED HERE IS A MOVIE POSTER FROM THE FILM AVATAR, IT WORKS WELL SHOWING THE ACTOR WHO SPOKE THE CHARACTERS VOICE SHOWN AGAINST THE ANIMATED CHARACTERS FACE WORKS SHOWING THE COMPARISON.
6. 6. EXTREME CLOSE UP
AN EXTREME CLOSE UP IS USED TO SHOW A KEY DETAILED , OBJECT, GESTURE OR MOMENT OF CONTACT BETWEEN CHARACTERS, ALSO SO ONLY A FRACTION OF THE FOCUS OF ATTENTION, SUCH AS SOMEONE'S EYES, CAN BE SEEN.
A SHOT FOR COMMUNICATION A VERY DETAILED INFORMATION SUCH AS WHEN A CHARACTER HANDLES A SMALL PROP AND DOMINATES IT IN THE MOVIE FRAME.
THIS MOVIE SHOT IS FROM THE MOVIE HARRY POTTER, THIS EXTREME CLOSE UP IS FOCUSED ON THE CHARACTERS EYES, IN THIS SHOT THERE IS A PROP USED (GLASSES) WHICH ADDS MORE DETAIL TO THE SHOT.
7. 7. HIGH ANGLE SHOT
A HIGH ANGLE SHOT IS USED TO REPRESENT THE IDEA THAT SOMEONE OR SOMETHING IS WATCHING THE CHARACTER FROM A HIGH ABOVE VIEW, BUT IT IS NOT ALWAYS USED IN THAT SITUATION IT CAN ALSO BE USED TO SHOW A SCENERY.
NOT SO EXTREME AS A BIRD'S EYE VIEW. THIS SHOT WOULD SUIT THE MOMENT OF WHEN A CHARACTER IS OBSERVED FROM ABOVE BY ANOTHER CHARACTER BY ENTITY.
THIS EXAMPLE IS USED IN THE OPENING TITLE OF THE SOAP CORONATION STREET.
8. 8. LOW ANGLE SHOT
THIS CAN MAKE THE ACTOR SEEM LARGER THAN LIFE MAKING THEM APPEAR MORE DOMINANT, THIS COULD ALSO MEAN WE ARE SEEING SOMEONE THROUGH THE EYES OF ANOTHER PERSON SUCH AS A PERSON SEATED OR A SMALL CHILD LOOKING UP TO AN ADULT THIS COULD LEAD TO GUIDANCE ETC.
THIS SHOT IS TO SHOW THE POINT OF A SEATED LOOKING UP TO SOMEONE WHO IS STANDING
THIE SHOW BELOW IS FROM THE MOVIE SLUMDOG MIILLIONAIRE IT SHOWS THE MAIN CHARACTER APPEARING MORE SUPERIOR, AND LOOKING UP TO HIM CAUSE HE HAS DONE GOOD (ACHIEVEMENT).
