  • 1. That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Letus go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind,they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. Therewere also other boats with him. A furious squall came up,and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearlyswamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion.The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’tyou care if we drown?” Mark 4:35-38
  • 2. He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves,“Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it wascompletely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you soafraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified andasked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and thewaves obey him!” Mark 4:39-41

  • 4. They went across the lake to theregion of the Gerasenes. WhenJesus got out of the boat, a manwith an evil spirit came fromthe tombs to meet him. Thisman lived in the tombs, and noone could bind him anymore,not even with a chain. For hehad often been chained handand foot, but he tore the chainsapart and broke the irons on hisfeet. No one was strong enoughto subdue him. Mark 5:1-4
  • 5. Night and day among thetombs and in the hills he wouldcry out and cut himself withstones. When he saw Jesusfrom a distance, he ran and fellon his knees in front of him.He shouted at the top of hisvoice, “What do you want withme, Jesus, Son of the MostHigh God? Swear to God thatyou won’t torture me!” ForJesus had said to him, “Comeout of this man, you evil spirit!” Mark 5:5-8
  • 6. Then Jesus asked him, “What isyour name?” “My name isLegion,” he replied, “for we aremany.” And he begged Jesusagain and again not to sendthem out of the area. Mark 5:9-10
  • 7. A large herd of pigs was feedingon the nearby hillside. Thedemons begged Jesus, “Send usamong the pigs; allow us to gointo them.” He gave thempermission, and the evil spiritscame out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousandin number, rushed down thesteep bank into the lake andwere drowned. Mark 5:11-13
  • 8. When they came to Jesus, theysaw the man who had beenpossessed by the legion ofdemons, sitting there, dressedand in his right mind; and theywere afraid. Those who hadseen it told the people what hadhappened to the demon-possessed man—and told aboutthe pigs as well. Then the peoplebegan to plead with Jesus toleave their region. Mark 5:15-17
  • 9. As Jesus was getting into theboat, the man who had beendemon-possessed begged to gowith him. Jesus did not let him,but said, “Go home to your ownpeople and tell them how muchthe Lord has done for you, andhow he has had mercy on you.”So the man went away and beganto tell in the Decapolis how muchJesus had done for him. And allthe people were amazed. Mark 5:18-20
