  • Romans 7 14 We know that the law is holy. But I am not.I have been sold to be a slave of sin. 15 I dontunderstand what I do. I dont do what I want to do.Instead, I do what I hate to do. 16 I do what I dont wantto do. So I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, I am nolonger the one who does these things. It is sin living in methat does them.
  • Romans 7 18 I know there is nothing good in my sinfulnature. I want to do what is good, but I cant. 19 I dont dothe good things I want to do. I keep on doing the evilthings I dont want to do. 20 I do what I dont want to do.But I am not really the one who is doing it. It is sin living inme.
  • Romans 7 21 Here is the law I find working in me. When Iwant to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 Deepinside me I find joy in Gods law. 23 But I see another lawworking in the parts of my body. It fights against the lawof my mind. It makes me a prisoner of the law of sin. Thatlaw controls the parts of my body.
  • Romans 7 24 What a terrible failure I am! Who will saveme from this sin that brings death to my body? 25 I givethanks to God. He will do it through Jesus Christ our Lord.     So in my mind I am a slave to Gods law. But in mysinful nature I am a slave to the law of sin.

  • Jesus was not God’s Plan B. When God gave theTorah to the Jews, God knew then that their abuse of it would eventually make it clear that only the prophesied Messiah from the line of David was capable of rescuing them from sin and death.
  • Jesus was not God’s Plan B. When God gave the Torah to the Jews, God knew then that their abuse of it would eventually make it clear that only the prophesied Messiah from the line of David was capable of rescuing them from sin and death.Today, those of us who believe in the Bible abuse it in the same way. God wants us to arrive at the sameconclusion as the Jews of old. We are only saved by God’s grace and mercy, not by our good behavior.
  • So I’m ‘pre-wired’ to sin, even if I know better. But ifJesus will always forgive me, why should I worry about making bad choices?
