In Turkey, Distance Education Projects have recently been carried out in several educational institutions most of which are in higher education level and they don’t provide educational access to learners in elementary and secondary schools.
In order to fulfill this need, “Home Study System” has been developed and a framework was determined for the project.
Educentra aims to provide students with an environment in which they can study in different places and distances with different pace.
The Educentra presents synchronous and asynchronous education both of which are designed by the instructors of the institution along with a social network which enables students and teachers get together and interact.
Students can “attend” an online class at any time, from anywhere in the world that has internet access.
The resources in the educentra asynchronous include teaching-learning materials, simulation, animation, tutorial, drill and practice, quiz/test, lesson/presentation, case study, collection and reference material.
Distance education can be defined as a modern education application which gives opportunity to people who don’t have the chance to have formal education. It’s quite clear that the web-based learning will be more common in the following years since it offers flexibility, individuality and equality in education.
The education process independent of time and place makes it a perfect learning platform for everybody.
