In Turkey, Distance Education Projects have recently been carried out in several educational institutions most of which are in higher education level and they don’t provide educational access to learners in elementary and secondary schools.
In order to fulfill this need, “Home Study System” has been developed and a framework was determined for the project.
The use of web- based audiovisual educational media to unite teacher and learner and carry course content in virtual environment
Provide the opportunity to revise the subjects at home with the asynchronous instructions created with content development tools such as Articulate Studio 09
Home work assignment to specific students and online checking
The assignment of documents and the content to specific students
The social Networks enables students to communicate with their teachers, make new friends and chat.
A personal page for each user to manage the accounts.
Educentra aims to provide students with an environment in which they can study in different places and distances with different pace.
The Educentra presents synchronous and asynchronous education both of which are designed by the instructors of the institution along with a social network which enables students and teachers get together and interact.
Students can “attend” an online class at any time, from anywhere in the world that has internet access.
The resources in the educentra asynchronous include teaching-learning materials, simulation, animation, tutorial, drill and practice, quiz/test, lesson/presentation, case study, collection and reference material.
The virtual classroom enables the teacher use an interactive white board and has the ability to manage the classroom such as in a real classroom.
The virtual classroom might be called as the simulation of real classroom environment. Many classrooms can be opened simultaneously and tens of students can be educated in each classroom.
The most widely used traditional assessment tools are multiple-choice tests, true/false tests, short answers, and essays.
The web-based testing system which enables students has the test/quiz online.
www.educentra.com enables students to attend classes by themselves, register for the live lessons, receive and complete homework and assignment online and communicate with other students.
The web page also offers “chat rooms” for informal conversation among students. This section is the place where teachers and students get together, chat, add friends and share.
Distance education can be defined as a modern education application which gives opportunity to people who don’t have the chance to have formal education. It’s quite clear that the web-based learning will be more common in the following years since it offers flexibility, individuality and equality in education.
The education process independent of time and place makes it a perfect learning platform for everybody.
