Teams <ul><li>Many are not healthy! </li></ul><ul><li>Many team leaders don’t really shepherd their teams </li></ul><ul><li>“Well led teams” are a critical, high priority component of our Area Vision,. </li></ul><ul><li>Staff Development best takes place on healthy teams. </li></ul><ul><li>So, we need to strengthen our teams! </li></ul>

Patrick Lencioni states … <ul><li>“ In … working with” CEOs and their teams, two critical truths have become clear to me. </li></ul><ul><li>First, genuine teamwork … remains as elusive as it’s ever been. </li></ul><ul><li>Second, organizations fail to achieve teamwork because they unknowingly fall prey to five natural but dangerous pitfalls, which I will call the five dysfunctions of a team : </li></ul>
  5. 5. Absence of trust <ul><li>Stems from unwillingness to be vulnerable within the group </li></ul><ul><li>Lack of genuine openness with one another about mistakes & weaknesses makes it impossible to build a foundation for trust. </li></ul>

  7. 7. Fear of conflict <ul><li>Teams that lack trust are incapable of engaging in unfiltered and passionate debate of ideas. </li></ul><ul><li>Instead, they resort to veiled discussions and guarded comments. </li></ul>

  9. 10. Lack of commitment <ul><li>Without having aired their opinions in the course of passionate and open debate, team members rarely, if ever, “buy in” and commit to decisions, though they may feign agreement during meetings. </li></ul>

  11. 12. Avoidance of accountability <ul><li>Without committing to a clear plan of action, even the most focused and driven people often hesitate to call their peers on actions and behaviors that seem counterproductive to the good of the team. </li></ul>

  13. 14. Inattention to results <ul><li>Occurs when team members put their individual needs (such as ego, career development, or recognition) or even the needs of their ‘division’ above the collective goals of the team. </li></ul>
