This model was done for a variety of reasons – including the need to make the archaeology more attractive or accessible to the general public – now features in a public exhibition in the Museum in Fitzgeralds Park in Cork. In our liaison with the PA and the modellers we realised that we had to engage in great detail with issues such as nature of walls, location of walls, location of main structural supports, base plates, wall plates, rafters, roofing materials, thatching styles – not only with how the structures were built but also how they looked and what significance there may be in differences of construction and appearance - the modelling exercise forced us to nail our colours to the mast.
Charcoal and heat-shattered stone before being put into the trough (limestone beach cobbles exploded in the fire). The mound is forming before the stones are put into the water.
The parish of Kinsalebeg contains a deserted medieval borough the location of which is not known. Bradley ( ibid ) the main source for medieval archaeology of Co. Waterford, believes the borough/village may have been located in either Pilltown (on or near the PDS) or Prospecthall (a few km to the S).
