  • Throughout our fellowship year, we’ve been exploring different entity types relative to formation and entrepreneurship. The most bureaucratic, that of traditional government, and on the opposite side of the spectrum, purely for profit maximizing business.

  • But… • You cannot be afraid to fail. You have to fail through your way to get to success and become your most authentic self. • Girls are particularly bad at managing failure. – 1998 AAUW Study • • • • Girls lag in science & math Girls are ‘silenced’ in classrooms Computer science – decline in interest for girls Girls like to be “excellent” instead of “challenged” • Failure isn’t an endpoint; it’s a learning pit-stop. • Failure is NOT failure if you learned something from it!

  • NEVER Underestimate the Power of Networking • Networking can help you find your bliss! • It’s also more like farming, less like hunting. • When networking, best question to ask the other person: “What are YOU passionate about?” • Network up, down, and across. – Up: people will push you – Down: you’ll polish your leadership skills – Across: you’ll get business!

  • What is Social Capital? • Social capital includes: – Your personal brand – Your expertise – Your network size – Your relationship quality within that network (strong vs. weak) – Your ability to leverage the network along with your expertise to develop a track record of increased business value to organizations—online and offline. (Ex: crowdsourcing a project.)
