A LOT OF MISTAKES HAVE BEEN MADE <ul><li>High Impact Aerobics </li></ul><ul><li>Super coordinated aerobic dance exercise </li></ul><ul><li>High intensity spinning </li></ul><ul><li>Exasperated body building </li></ul><ul><li>Use of drugs and other “enhancing” substances </li></ul><ul><li>Unqualified instructors </li></ul>

The Fitness Industry has grown <ul><li>Shoes and wearing apparel, </li></ul><ul><li>Equipment and new training techniques, </li></ul><ul><li>Pools and aquatic exercise environment, </li></ul><ul><li>Flooring and exercise specific architecture </li></ul><ul><li>Computer technology and software, </li></ul><ul><li>Heart rate monitors, body fat analyzers </li></ul><ul><li>Music and music systems </li></ul><ul><li>and beyond….and continues to grow </li></ul>
  7. 7. Multi-Million Euro Industry <ul><li>What is its objective? </li></ul><ul><li>The health and wellness of the consumer </li></ul><ul><li>But was it achieving its goal? </li></ul>

So What Has Changed? <ul><li>Many unqualified instructors are still teaching </li></ul><ul><li>Many fitness myths still prevail </li></ul><ul><li>Medical costs are soaring </li></ul><ul><li>Obesity and overweight continue to “expand”. </li></ul><ul><li>There is still a vast sedentary population </li></ul>

Why? <ul><li>Research shows that physically active people live longer, have a better quality of life and cost the system less €€€ </li></ul><ul><li>Inactive people have a less healthy lifestyle, tend to be less productive for society and can become a burden for the governments due to health care. </li></ul>

How do we activate people? <ul><li>Qualified exercise professionals </li></ul><ul><li>Safe and effective exercise programmes </li></ul><ul><li>A healthy and positive environment </li></ul><ul><li>Motivation to contine to exercise </li></ul><ul><li>Make them enjoy the physical activity </li></ul><ul><li>They have to have… </li></ul><ul><li>FUN!!! </li></ul>

What is the key? <ul><li>The instructor/exercise professional plays a key role in activating people to fitness </li></ul><ul><li>Often poorly paid, overworked, no benefits … </li></ul><ul><li>Not incentivated to obtain or maintain qualification… </li></ul><ul><li>What can be a solution? </li></ul>

E-Learning Fitness <ul><li>We have a big job ahead of us </li></ul><ul><li>Prepare for the future of fitness and health in the 21st Century </li></ul><ul><li>Dec 21st, 2012 will not be the end of the world but the beginning of a New World based on communication, sharing and health enhancing physical activity </li></ul><ul><li>We have a DREAM… </li></ul>
