  • Background
    • Fitness activities have grown considerably over the last 30 years but are still lacking institutional recognition.
    • The Health sector is interested in establishing a strategic alliance with the Fitness sector to promote Health Enhancing Physical Activities (HEPA) and demands clear evidence regarding the professional qualification of fitness instructors.
    • The call at the end of 2009, from the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency of the European Union, under the Leonardo da Vinci Lifelong Learning Programme, was a good opportunity to present an eLearning project to facilitate the dialogue between these two sectors.
  • Background
    • With the development of the EQF-Fitness there is an enormous need to qualify currently active fitness professionals as well as the training and education of new instructors according to the EQF structure to give transparency and credibility to the sector at European level .
    • It is necessary to facilitate the training of all those who operate as fitness professionals, overcoming the difficulties which prevent those who live in remote areas from participating in suitable training courses and continuing professional development.
    • Open and distance learning becomes a flexible way for training and continuing education during the professional’s free time.
  • Main Goals & Objectives
    • To create an e-learning platform based on the EQF-Fitness minimum standards necessary to train new instructors and to qualify active fitness professionals for:
    • Group Fitness Instruction (exercise to music) EQF Level 3
    • Fitness Instruction (strength & cardiofitness exercise) EQF Level 3
    • Personal Training - EQF Level 4
    • The creation of a pilot platform for the National Registers of exercise professionals.
    • Dissemination and exploitation of the project’s results.
  • Testing
    • At least 20 people will go through the program in each Partner Country:
    • Divided between new learners and active instructors
    • In the 5 categories of education (Knowledge, Group Exercise
    • to Music, AquaFitness, Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer)
    • These individuals will go through e-testing for the theoretical learning and will be asked to undergo practical testing at the end of the e-learning program.
    • Create and test the “FITNESS Professional Card” in cooperation with the LLP National Agencies.
  • Professional Card for service providers
    • Directive 2005/36 EC, Recognition of Professional Qualifications
    • European Parliament resolution of 19 February 2009 on the creation of a European professional card for service providers (2008/2172(INI)) (2010/C 76 E/08)
    • “ .....the professional card should make it possible to monitor the career of professionals. Such cards could contain information, in full respect of data protection provisions, on the professional’s professional qualifications (university or institution attended, qualifications obtained, professional experience), his legal establishment, penalties received relating to his profession and the details of the relevant competent authority”.
  • Results
    • The eLF platform will include the theory, knowledge and the practical skills and competencies needed to perform as an accredited exercise professional.
    • It will be translated into all the languages of the participating partners.
    • The instructors who are certified on the basis of the EQF-Fitness will then be able to apply and be accepted to their Pilot National Register.
    • The National Registers are the guarantors of transparency in professional qualifications, they will interact to facilitate the recognition and the mobility of the instructors throughout Europe.
  • Consortium
    • Vision:
    • All Partners will be invited to enter and be active in the Consortium, which will be formed at the end of the project to continue all eLF goals and objectives.
    • Activities:
    • The Consortium’s Partners will evaluate and decide how to:
    • develop, implement and manage
    • all eLF’s future activities
    • THANK YOU !!!
