As a kid, Devlin explored and found things to do while his parents studied the stars. It wasn’t long before his natural affinity to technology cropped up. When he was old enough, his parents got him an engineering job in the navy. Soon enough, he was sick of it, and took off at the next stop. Devlin had saved and learned enough that he was able to get a small ship of his own. Returning to the station, he brought his two childhood friends onboard. Seeking to explore, they headed into the edge of civilized territory.<br />Personality – Headstrong and rash, Devlin is most at home in the far reaches of space. He has much experience on a ship, and has strong intuition guiding him. As he left school, he wanted to do something worthwhile. With a bit of effort, he got into a political internship. He worked there for several years, slowly working his way up with work ethic and initiative. Jericha finally was selected to run for a political party, where he won and was later appointed to the cabinet. Five years later, in his second term, he is one of the few party members that people still like having around. When news arrives of a string of various problems being stirred up in the outer colonies, he mobilizes to catch whoever is behind it. <br />Personality – Resolute, concentrated, and strong, Jericha is the Minister of Defense. He has rigid principles and is well entrenched in his role. With a stern definition of order, Jericha is relentless. <br />Goals – Believing in safety, he wants to keep the kind of trouble Devlin causes from happening through whatever legitimate means are available. <br />Name Explanation – Jericha means ‘a strong gifted ruler’ and Berry means ‘fortification’ because of his role in security.<br />Appearance - http://www.digit-8.com/wp-content/images/man-in-suit.jpg<br />Detective/Mystery<br />LEONARD ROBINSON<br />26 years old, journalist<br />19050133350History – Growing up in a small acreage on the outskirts of town, Leonard had an easy childhood. His well educated parents nurtured his curiosity, and he was well taken care of. This does not, however, mean he was given a free ride. Out of principle, his mother made a point of enlisting his help with things, and ensured he got a job early on. The most enjoyable extracurricular activity he ever did was writing for the school paper. Although nobody read it, Lenny got much enjoyment out of figuring things out and finding stories. When it came time to move on past high school, he knew what he liked most. With solid grades and a significant club involvement, he had little trouble getting into a prestigious university. Upon graduating, he moved away to the city, where the major papers were based. Starting small, he found a less popular (but reputable) place to work. Just like on the school paper, he covered the insignificant bottom stories with diligence. When the unappealing prospect of travelling to a remote military base to write an obituary came up, Lenny was the only person to express interest. Important or not, this would be an experience and a chance to investigate – exactly his kind of task.<br />Personality – Friendly and polite, Lenny makes a good impression on most. He most enjoys figuring things out and unravelling mysteries. Generally a moral person, Lenny is empathetic and courteous. That being said, he also tends to be naive, with strong beliefs about right and wrong. Not very practical, he is fairly relaxed and trusting. He is ambitious in the best sense of the word, because his smile to his boss is genuine. All around likeable, if a bit too idealistic.<br />Goals – Lenny wants to inform people and unravel mysteries, a true reporter.<br />Name Explanation – Leonard refers to being like a lion – aka noble and honorable. Graves’ dad was a shop owner and part time hunter who taught him about duty, among other rural values. When he was ready to find a career path, mass media coverage drew his attention to a medium scale conflict in disputed territories overseas. A physically capable, patriotic man, Graves didn’t see the army as much of a leap. After a difficult few years working with his squad, he was transferred to become the administrator of the boot camp he hailed from. Over the next while, he settled comfortably into his role. Peacetime suited him well, since the men he was getting to know didn’t die afterward. Graves came to enjoy mentoring his troops, not that he cared about the causes and ideals their heads had been filled with. His position became much more strained when a real war broke out. As he could tell from past experiences, this one was serious, and wouldn’t abate by the time his newest company was due to get out of boot camp. The media advertised it as a great patriotic struggle, just like they had when he enlisted. Doing what he could to stall, but knowing it was futile, Graves braced for the inevitable. Complicating things further were a dead private and a persistent reporter. <br />Personality – Leader of the base, Graves is an old fashioned and caring, if insular, man. He cares deeply for the men under his command, and while he comes off as gruff he is usually trying to protect them. This courtesy does not, however, extend to strangers. Graves keeps his own safe, whatever the expense to himself or others. Marilyn had fairly decent parents who ensured she was in a safe, comfortable school. She always enjoyed looking around at the beautifully constructed buildings in those wealthy areas. After a pleasant young life, she went into architecture and soon landed a position with the municipal government. Marilyn worked as a city planner for years, which went smoothly – until a vandalism spree started destroying her plans. <br />Personality – A lighthearted and kind woman. Marilyn is a prominent city planner; she is intelligent and creative. Since then, Drew has been an anonymous activist-vandal. <br />Personality –He is rebellious, world weary, and has little better to do. Normally a mild mannered person, Drew has recently become obsessed with his battle to fix the city. His sister and he played instruments together and their parents were very willing to pay for them. Growing up, that was one interest that never went away. When a talent scout from the industry was in town, he was noticed and catapulted into a fast moving career, lead by his agent. <br />Personality – Affable and polite, he gradually grows to become more and more estranged from his past life and normalcy. Initially he is respectful, friendly, and relaxed. Despite being very talented, he is humble and considerate, underplaying his success.<br />Goals – Marlowe seeks to continue expanding his music career.<br />Name Explanation – Marlowe means ‘drained lake,’ referring to how, during the story, his potential is wasted and exploited by others until it disappears. Travis spent much of his early life finding various creative ways to get cash. As he grew older and the law became a problem, Travis tried to clean up his act. He found he was good at mentoring people – with some contacts of his, he set up as an agent for upcoming musicians. <br />Personality – Charismatic and fun loving, Travis has no trouble convincing potential artists to hang around him. He ensures that his clients have a good time…whether that’s a good idea or not. Travis is no stranger to the party scene. He is independent, aggressive, and not afraid of stepping on toes. Cutting edge, insolent, and audacious. <br />Goals – Travis ensures his clients are happy and successful, with him tagging along, of course. <br />Name Explanation – Travis means ‘crossroads’ since he brings Marlowe to a turning point in his life. After going through several jobs, and finding he couldn’t deal with being ordered around, he set off to found his own store. He steadily grew and became fairly wealthy in the city. However, when a ruthless, ambitious businessman decided to set up shop as well, things became tense. When his competitor hired Luke Foster, things became worse. <br />Personality – Firm and independent, Macy stands up for himself. He is a bit rough and confrontational, usually very blunt. Generally preferring to keep to himself, he’s a private person. <br />Goals – Macy is trying to run a store successfully in his own large corner of the city. <br />Name Explanation – His first name, Macy, means ‘enduring’ because he holds on in the face of fierce competition and pressure. On his way out of high school, his father convinced him to join military service, as he had. Soon, Luke was singled out for the Special Forces, where he ran a highly impressive seven year career. When he grew tired of red tape, controlling teammates, and weak pay, he left to return to civilian life. He did, but barely – soon Luke found himself making great money off his most employable skills – espionage and violence. <br />Personality – Luke is cynical and straightforward. Known for brutal efficiency, he doesn’t mess up or back out. Reliability, experience and an emotionally detached attitude would be his most useful traits. Darkly humorous, he is aloof and rational.<br />Goals – Beyond the obvious (success, income) his goals only stretch as far as his next job. With his father dead in the later battles of World War two, and his mother poor and struggling, Sacha has been working in a factory since age twelve to support her. Despite this, she insisted he not drop out of school. When he had finished his education, one of his father’s good friends offered to help him get a well paying job, serving the country. Able to both support his nation and ensure his mother was taken care of, he jumped at the chance. Only five years later, Sacha is already a well established agent. <br />Personality – Motivated and capable, he prides himself on efficiency. Driven by patriotism, he is loyal and doesn’t hesitate or stray from his superiors. A quiet, solitary person, being isolated is nothing new to him. He has always been hardworking and has a strong sense of obligation. Compassionate out of habit, Sacha is there for people and causes he cares about. <br />Goals – Sacha seeks to protect his country from the kind of situation that lead to World War two, and his father’s death. He also is working toward being able to afford his mother’s retirement. <br />Name Explanation – Sacha means ‘protector of man’ due to his role as defending his country. With wealthy, intellectual parents, he was well educated and strongly instilled with pro-American beliefs. In school, he showed particular promise in mathematical analysis, which he followed through to university. After graduating with stellar prospects, Donald was approached by the NSA. With no shortage of resentment for communists, he soon signed on as a cryptographer. Only a few years in, he demonstrated that he was even better at managing the data than intercepting it, and was promoted to oversee a detachment. <br />Personality – Donald is intelligent and detached, with big picture ethics – exactly the kind of person national security is looking for. He strongly supports his country out of reasonable opinion rather than blind patriotism, and wants to do what is best for its safety. This is not, however, a double standard – many times his calculated risks have made his own detachment vulnerable. While still very small, she would often wander the city, especially along that river. She enjoyed many misadventures with varying levels of danger, and had sailed many times before becoming an adult. With no prospects and a poor background, she decided to take off on an altogether different path; she took a position on the nearest cargo barge, leaving London. For years she sailed with the crew. Once she had the experience and finances, she bought her own ship. She worked in cargo and smuggling, very slowly gathering a trusted crew. Over the seven years she’s been running her vessel, she’s had to deal with no small amount of risk and trouble. However, when she unknowingly collects a package with vital (stolen) Spanish documents for transport to southern England, she encounters a whole new level of danger…<br />Personality – Daring and bold, Bridget is more than capable of handling herself. She is fiercely independent, and very cautious. Nearly impossible to trick or catch unawares, Bridget is alive today because she is always suspicious, perceptive and able to think on her feet. <br />Goals – Bridget is trying to make a living off her smuggling, by improving her reputation as a capable captain. Slowly, she has been building a network of contacts and recommendations. <br />Name Explanation – Her first name means ‘strong’ and her last name ‘Drake’ refers to dwelling at the sign of the dragon – or in her case, scratching the surface of crime and secrets. Since the medieval age, Gregoria’s ancestors were called on and rewarded, not because of birth, but rather outstanding capability. Gregoria was no exception. He lived with his mother in a beautiful acreage on the countryside, while his father was generally busy with work. When he grew old enough, Gregoria joined the military service in his father’s unit. Learning from his blood relative of a commander who paid special attention to him, he quickly caught up to become an admirable soldier himself. When an engagement claimed his father’s life, Gregoria transferred to the navy. Climbing the rank ladder with ease, he was soon a rear admiral, looking for the bust to make his career…<br />Personality – Charismatic and gruff, Gregoria is an accomplished commander for a reason. He is loyal to his superiors and puts his full weight behind work. To his enemies, he is somewhat resentful, but mostly enjoys the competition. Not especially callous, Gregoria is reasonable and straightforward.<br />Goals – Gregoria wants to gain favor with his superiors, hoping to prove himself the worthy soldier his father was. His family was content but hardworking. They still managed to send him to a schoolhouse, where he was friendly, but didn’t know anybody from the town. As soon as he finished, he left school to continue working for his parents. Tired of that life, and with much wealth accumulated, they retired and moved away, leaving the ranch to him. Since then, Milton has been running the place on his own. He’s done fairly well, establishing a routine which he has stuck to. That all changed when a bloody Lakota hunter showed up at his doorstep, asking for asylum…<br />Personality – Simple and reliable, Milton keeps mostly to himself, only making the odd venture into town. He is quiet and thoughtful, enjoying the relaxed peace of nighttime on his porch. Milton is casual, direct, and calm. He has a strong independent streak with black-and-white morals. Bluntly sincere, Milton doesn’t play games or make small talk. <br />Goals – He has relatively little ambition, wanting mostly to maintain his ranch and make it more efficient. <br />Name Explanation – Milton means ‘from the mill town’ for his background in ranching and country life. The town went through great waves of controversy, crime, and conflict in its early years. Finally, things stabilized when a deeply religious sheriff came into the picture. With him, he brought a stern, judgmental brand of justice, which brought the place back from the brink of anarchy. Oscar, inspired by him, made many excuses to see him and he became like a second father, imparting his values. When he grew older, Oscar followed in the sheriff’s footsteps and became a modern day crusader against the unjust and wicked. In the middle of one of his most important campaigns, he tracked an ambush escapee to the doorstep of Milton Walsh. <br />Personality – Stern and driven, Oscar is resolute. He is determined, cunning and practical. Generally very polite and courteous, except when he is fully focused on accomplishing his mission. <br />Goals – Seeking to ferret out deceit, cruelty, and chaos so he can openly fight them, Oscar is a zealot with grand ambitions.<br />Name Explanation – All the various meanings of Oscar refer to being an effective, divine fighter. With only his grandmother to watch out for him, he was very close to her. When people started disappearing, he was the only one who didn’t attribute it merely to wild animals. <br />Personality – Curious and intuitive, Amadi has been solving mysteries since he was small. He is kind, but quick to judge. Unusually suspicious, he is often thought of as an imaginative child, who doesn’t know when to drop his accusations. Amadi acts on instinct, passionate and rash. <br />Goals – Amadi’s goals are short term and immediate. He doesn’t think ahead much, and focuses on whatever has caught his interest at the time.<br />Name Explanation – His name means ‘free man’ because he is one of the few who has unrestrained, unsuppressed curiosity and is willing to follow it through.<br />Appearance – http://blackchristiannews.com/news/african%20boy%20--%20cropped.jpg<br />KATLEGO<br />52 years old, village elder<br />1905076200History – Growing up in an average family with uninteresting origins, Katlego was expected to be a normal, unimportant hunter. Since he was little, however, he has dreamt of better. When his uncle, a religious figure, took him out hunting, he saw his chance. After the death of his uncle, he was rushed in to replace him, temporarily. While in power Katlego consolidated his position and threw his full initiative into being irreplaceably capable. Finally, a more suitable successor was ready, but by that point – nobody wanted him to quit. Quickly establishing himself as a critical part of village life, Katlego enjoyed a respectable, safe position for years. This was challenged, however, when a child strongly disputed the latest ‘accidental disappearance.’<br />Personality – Ambitious and clever, Katlego is in his current position for a reason. He is realistically cautious, ensuring his loose ends are tied up and that he isn’t at risk.
