    2. Bio for Kirsti A. Dyer MD, MS
      • Dr. Dyer is an Internal Medicine physician, a health educator, a professor, a college nutrition instructor and the mother to two young children.
      • As a Certified Wellness Specialist she is interested in health and wellness education.
      • Dr. Dyer is a volunteer parent at her daughters’ elementary school, a member of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation & a former participating parent at Summerville Parent Nursery School.

      • Each child gets to run the activity course solo--by him or herself.
      • Each child starts at the starting line with a "Ready-Set-Go" and then the whistle blows to start a race.
      • Each child gets to cross the finish line and break the finish line ribbon alone.

      • After the running part is over...
      • Children participate in other activities.
      • Each child is presented with a #1 Winner medal by the teacher as part of the Winners ceremony.
      • Each child is presented with a Winner bag filled with healthy prizes and nutritious fruit and/or nuts.

      • Other health promotion items - visors, sunglasses etc.

      • The main goal of the event is to create an environment in which each child gets to feel special, like a winner.
      • Each child goes home feeling and believing for at least one day that
      • "I'm a Winner!"
      • This is the message that we want children to internalize & believe about themselves.

    12. Feeling Like a Winner
      • Each child gets to run a “race” course by themselves and break the ribbon at the finish line to experience "winning.“
      • There is no competition.

      • For at least one day, each child gets to be active, be in a group event and end feeling like a winner.
