This is a unique opportunity to undertake either vocational or academic studies
within a professional sports environment, whilst working as an Activity Leadership
Apprentice.
Synergy Sports Academy is led by a team of professionals including; Chesterfield FC
legend Andy Morris (Bruno), former Chesterfield Academy Manager Dave Bentley,
David O'Hare and Matt Chatfield. The coaches qualifications range from FA Level 2
to FA level 4 (UEFA A) with youth modules up to level 3. Senior coach Dave Bentley is
UEFA A qualified, and David O’Hare is UEFA B qualified.
All successful applicants will also have the opportunity to play regular competitive
football and receive UEFA level coaching within an Academy environment.
The Academy’s directors are passionate and want to encourage football, in a better way,
at the grass roots level. They have been closely involved with the sport for
many years and have had significant experience at management level.

4. For the first 16 weeks of your program you will be completing a ‘Traineeship’. This is a
government funded scheme that aims to up-skill trainees through work experience
and education.
You will be working alongside the current apprentices and the more experienced
coaching team, assisting to deliver sports coaching to the local community. You will
also work towards a range of short qualifications to enhance your knowledge and
skills, with a view to applying for a full apprenticeship at the end of the traineeship
programme.
You will also have the opportunity to take part in a professional and rigorous pre-
season training program run by the head coaches of Synergy Sports Academy.
Once the traineeship is complete, those that continue on to
the apprenticeship will gain access to the facilities and
specially designed fitness classes at Lifestyle Fitness, on
Derby Road, in Chesterfield.
5. Successful completion of the Traineeship could lead to employment with Synergy
Sports Academy on a full time basis as an Assistant Activity Leader (30 hours per
week). All employed apprentices will get a wage. The national minimum wage
for apprentices is currently £2.73 per hour and applies to time working and time
in education. The wage applies to all apprentices aged under 19, and apprentices
aged 19 or over in the first year of their Apprenticeship.
Like most other employees, you will be given at least 20 days paid holiday a year
as well as bank holidays.
6. CBD Training has been providing first class
vocational training to organisations for the
last fifteen years, and has built up an excellent
reputation.
Years of experience in delivering apprenticeships in a variety of sectors, as
well as a genuine passion for helping people to truly reach their potential,
define what CBD Training bring to the partnership.

CBD Training are major partners with Sheffield College and The
Derbyshire Network.
Experienced and qualified tutors and assessors are on hand to provide
support for all academic needs throughout your qualifications.
7. During your first year of employment you will be working towards an
Intermediate Apprenticeship in Activity Leadership.
The Leadership Pathway of this Apprenticeship is aimed at those
individuals looking to enter the sector, who’ll be preparing, leading,
concluding and reviewing activity sessions in a safe, engaging and
inclusive manner.
The work is challenging and varied, working within local communities
to improve access to sport and coaching for young people, people
with disabilities and people from disadvantaged communities.
You will also be given the opportunity to complete the BTEC Extended
Diploma in Sport. This course provides a specialist, work-related
programme of study, covering key knowledge and practical skills.
If you not only enjoy taking part in sport, but also have a real interest
in the aspects surrounding and supporting performance, then this
course is for you.
It will give you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and
investigate a wide range of aspects; from the scientific to the
sociological, from the psychological to the nutritional.
