Analyzing the Learner
• Public high school students grades 9-12
• In the setting of a music appreciation class
• Homogenous demographic of middle class,
locally born students
High school students, grades 9-12, will
actively listen to, describe, and critically
review music in the operatic style through
exposure, group activity, and presentation with
100% accuracy in one week.
Day by Day Breakdown
• Introduction, first video example
• Listening examples and
• History of the art, video
example, making connections
• Video/listening example,
discussion in groups, individual
• Presentation based on the weeks
Use of Technology
Students will be exposed to opera through
technological mediums familiar to them, primarily
ITunes and YouTube. They will be encouraged to
keep their activities on a digital format, or flash drive
to make assembling a presentation more simple.
Finally the presentation to the class will be assembled
