Proverbs 15a new year message

  1. 1. Gospel Baptist Tabernacle 781 Salem Road, Rossville, GA 30741 Where the Love of God www.rossvillechurch.com abounds, everyone is welcome. Children’s Church taught by Paul and Marsha Davis during preaching. January 1, 2013 1
  2. 2. Coming January 12 John Sheila Jessica Stuart 2
  3. 3. Message for the New Year Words are powerful! Proverbs 18 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: … 3
  4. 4. Proverbs 15 1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. No discussion is helped by harsh words. Gentle words from the heart are effective. Humility 4
  5. 5. Harsh words cause an argument to escalate. argument Argument! 5
  6. 6. 1 Timothy 1:5 (TLB) 5 What I am eager for is that all the Christians there will be filled with love that comes from pure hearts, and that their minds will be clean and their faith strong. Romans 12:9 (TLB) 9 Don’t just pretend that you love others: really love them. Hate what is wrong. Stand on the side of the good. Matthew 12 34 … out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 6
  7. 7. Our words come from our hearts – mind and emotions. When we really love as God commands, It is natural to speak gentle words of kindness. James 3:10-11 (NIV) Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? To praise God and curse men ought not be. 7
  8. 8. 2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness. Those who have knowledge must use Wisdom to persuade others to the right way. 8
  9. 9. If I am right, my only legitimate goal is to persuade. Isaiah 1 18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. 9
  10. 10. A condescending attitude will not reach people’s minds to persuade. Don’t talk down to people. Reach out. 10
  11. 11. 3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. Adam and Eve found out that we can’t hide from God. Thoughts and words 11
  12. 12. Psalm 139 7 Whither shall I go from Thy Spirit? or whither shall I flee from Thy Presence? 8 If I ascend up into Heaven, Thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, Thou art there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; 10 Even there shall Thy Hand lead me, and Thy Right Hand shall hold me. 11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. 12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from Thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to Thee. God hears every thought and word. 12
  13. 13. Running from God is futile. 13
