  • 2. Joshua 19:1-9 Because Judah had more territory than it needed, and in fulfillment of Jacob’s prophecy, Simeon was given land in the southern section of Judah’s territory with 17 towns and their villages. But it was not long before Simeon was to lose her individuality as a tribe , for her territory was incorporated eventually into that of Judah and many of her citizens migrated north to Ephraim and Manasseh. The Bible Knowledge Commentary: An Exposition of the Scriptures by Dallas Seminary Faculty.
  • 3. This explains why after the division of the kingdom following Solomon there were 10 tribes in the north and only 2 in the south (Judah and Benjamin). The Bible Knowledge Commentary: An Exposition of the Scriptures by Dallas Seminary Faculty.
  • 4. Vs 10-39 North
  • 5. 40-48
  • 6. Joshua 19 47 And the coast of the children of Dan went out too little for them: therefore the children of Dan went up to fight against Leshem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and possessed it, and dwelt therein, and called Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father.
  • 7. Joshua 19 49 When they had made an end of dividing the land for inheritance by their coasts, the children of Israel gave an inheritance to Joshua the son of Nun among them: 50 According to the Word of the Lord they gave him the city which he asked, even Timnathserah in mount Ephraim: and he built the city, and dwelt therein. 51 These are the inheritances, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, divided for an inheritance by lot in Shiloh before the Lord, at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. So they made an end of dividing the country.

  • 9. We see the two old men of faith, each receiving his inheritance from the Lord. Caleb was first; Joshua was last. As the leader of Israel, it was right that Joshua would see all of his people provided for, Before he received his portion. Not all leaders have such a heart.
  • 10. What a selfless spirit he possessed, and how his behavior contrasts with many political leaders who use their positions and influence to enrich them-selves and their families. The Bible Knowledge Commentary: An Exposition of the Scriptures by Dallas Seminary Faculty. Our national leaders have better health care , better retirement , better income Than they would ever allow for the people.
  • 11. It did get so cold in January that politicians in Atlanta had their hands in their own pockets.
  • 12. He asked for Timnath Serah , a city in the rugged, infertile, mountainous district of his own tribe ( Ephraim ), when he could have appropriated land in the fairest and most productive area of Canaan. The Bible Knowledge Commentary: An Exposition of the Scriptures by Dallas Seminary Faculty. Humility and Love
  • 13. Philippians 2 1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, 2 Fulfill ye my joy, that ye be likeminded , having the same love , being of one accord , of one mind . 3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves . This Christian humility is not often found, Even among Christians . People look down on people for lots of reasons; none are valid .
  • 14. Phil 2:4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others . Love does not seek its own : way, interests, desires, best Love desires the best for the one loved. Not just our children; Everyone!
  • 15. Phil 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself , and became obedient unto death , even the death of the cross. Let's not wait for God to bring us down. Let's humble ourselves as Jesus did.
  • 16. It's not our jobs to humble one another. It's my job to humble me. It's your job to humble you. I must never say or do anything to put you down, or bring you down. I am commanded to build you up.
  • 17. Romans 15 1 We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves . 2 Let every one of us please his neighbor for his good to edification. 3 For even Christ pleased not Himself ; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on Me. 4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning , that we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.
  • 18. Romans 15:5 Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: 6 That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 7 Wherefore receive ye one another , as Christ also received us to the glory of God. I have nothing but what God gave me ; Neither do you. God is teaching us with the life of Joshua , To put the needs , desires , and blessing of others before ourselves.
