  • Having had very little success in Athens, Paul moved on.If one wont hear, another will.Move on and keep witnessing. 2
  • Acts 18 1 After these things Paul departed fromAthens, and came to Corinth; 3
  • While Athens was known for its culture and learning, Corinth was known for its commerce, extravagance, and decadence.Land trade moving north and south went throughCorinth as did sea trade going east and west. The Bible Knowledge Commentary: An Exposition of the Scriptures by Dallas Seminary Faculty. Corinth was the center for worship of Aphrodite, the goddess of love (eros) and beauty. Immorality was pro- moted in the name of religion. 4
  • 1 Corinthians 2 1 And I, brethren, when I came toyou, came not with excellency of speech or ofwisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.2 For I determined not to know any thing amongyou, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, andin much trembling. Paul came alone to Corinth, a wicked city. Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather going on even though fearful. 5
  • 2 And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born inPontus, lately come from Italy, with his wifePriscilla; (because that Claudius had commandedall Jews to depart from Rome:) and came untothem. Once again God uses religious persecution to accomplish His Will. Persecution was not Gods Will, nor was it good. But God used it to accomplish good. They meant it for evil, but God used it for good. 6
  • 7
  • 3 And because he was of thesame craft, he abode withthem, and wrought: for bytheir occupation they weretentmakers. We dont know if Priscilla and Aquila were saved yet; they may have been, Or Paul may have led them to the Lord. Either way, Gods Will was accomplished. 8
  • 4 And he reasoned in the synagogue everySabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks. 5And when Silas and Timotheus were come fromMacedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, andtestified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.Acts 18:5 (NIV) When Silas and Timothy camefrom Macedonia, Paul devoted himself exclusivelyto preaching, testifying to the Jews that Jesus wasthe Christ. Silas and Timothy must have brought some offerings from Macedonia. 9
  • 6 And when they opposed themselves, andblasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said untothem, Your blood be upon your own heads; I amclean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles. The NIV and TLB said they opposed Paul; I think they got it wrong. When people wont hear the Truth, they oppose themselves. 10
  • Even people who have been saved, some-times reject a portion of the Word of God.When a person rejects any part of Scripture, they lose Gods blessing for obedience. 11
  • Hebrews 10 24-25 And let us consider one anotherto provoke unto love and to good works: Notforsaking the assembling of ourselves together, asthe manner of some is; but exhorting (encouraging)one another: and so much the more, as ye see theday approaching. Those who resist or reject coming together with the saints to worship God, Miss out on many of Gods blessings.Encouragement Word taught Fellowship Plus Gods blessing for simple obedience. 12
