Acts 16 1 Then came he to Derbe and Lystra:and, behold, a certain disciple was there, namedTimotheus, the son of a certain woman, which wasa Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:2 Which (Timothy) was well reported of by thebrethren that were at Lystra and Iconium. Review 3
3 Him (Timothy) would Paul have to go forth withhim; and took and circumcised him because of theJews which were in those quarters: for they knewall that his father was a Greek. Review4 And as they went through the cities, theydelivered them the decrees for to keep, that wereordained of the apostles and elders which were atJerusalem. 5
5 And so were the churches established in thefaith, and increased in number daily. True doctrine preached and taught in love is a catalyst for growth.Ephesians 4 11 And He (Jesus Christ) gave some(churches), apostles; and some, prophets; andsome, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;12 For the perfecting (complete furnishing -helpingthem grow up able to do the work) of the saints, forthe work of the ministry, for the edifying (buildingup) of the body of Christ: 6
13 Tillwe all come in the unity of the faith, and ofthe knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect (offull age) man, unto the measure of the stature of thefullness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be nomore children, tossed to and fro, and carried aboutwith every wind of doctrine, by the sleight ofmen, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie inwait to deceive; 7
15 But speaking the Truth in love, may grow upinto Him in all things, which is the head, evenChrist: 16 From whom the whole body fitly joinedtogether and compacted (knit together) by thatwhich every joint supplieth *, according to theeffectual working in the measure of everypart, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying(building up) of itself in love. 8
So Paul, Silas, and Timothy continued the journey together, teaching sound doctrine.5 And so were the churches established (madestronger) in the faith, and increased in numberdaily. With the teaching of the doctrine of Christianity, the churches grew to be solid in their beliefs -- They could not be Truth and live it. Know the shaken with every wind of doctrine that came along. 9
6 Now when they hadgone throughout Phrygiaand the region ofGalatia, and wereforbidden of the HolyGhost to preach the wordin Asia, 7 After they werecome to Mysia, theyassayed to go intoBithynia: but the Spiritsuffered them not. 10
How these hindrances were accomplished is notstated. It may have been circumstances, a word ofprophecy, a vision, or some other phenomenon. Atany rate, God planned for people in both Ephesusand Bithynia to hear the Gospel at a later time. The Bible Knowledge Commentary: An Exposition of the Scriptures by Dallas Seminary Faculty. Paul and Silas understood Gods Will. Where to go, and where not to go. What to do, and what not to do. We must learn to see and understand His Will in all things. 11
8-10And they passing by Mysia came down toTroas. And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayedhim, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and helpus. And after he had seen the vision, immediatelywe endeavored to go into Macedonia, assuredlygathering that the Lord had called us for to preachthe Gospel unto them. 12
However God reveals His Will for us,we must see and obey the Will of God. revealedWe must be sensitive to the working of the Holy Ghost in our hearts and minds. To do what God wants us to do will be our greatest blessing in this life. 14
